Maybe that's why it hurts so much to choose herself this time, to not choose Alex. She breaks herself apart with her choice, but Kara is the last daughter of Krypton. She needs to live for Kal, for this world she's adopted.
She needs to live for Alex, even if Alex hates her for it.
