Summary
When they’d first come up with this idea, asked him to consult on the thermodynamics necessary to create a tundra-like Arena where the first Hunger Games could be held, Dr. Jamie Goodman had decided to treat it like an academic exercise. Yes, children would be put into the Arena, but he knew that they’d make it out. The Capitol wanted to show its dominance over the Districts, wanted to show that they could manipulate the populace, but they wouldn’t seriously hurt the children. What would be the point in that, after all? Some rather rough gladiator-style Games would certainly do the trick to intimidate, especially if the tributes were the most vulnerable citizens of the Districts, so even if putting twelve-year-olds into the Arena seems like a rather distasteful idea to Jamie, he knows that they won’t be more than just a bit shaken up.
When the kids all rise into a glacial Arena the day the Games are set to begin, Jamie’s not too shocked. He’d been consulted for this reason, in order to make sure that the temperatures were a bit rough, but ultimately survivable for a few days.
And then he sees something that makes his heart stop in his chest:
There are weapons glinting against the snow.

Summary
The first Hunger Games were little more than a series of televised executions. The tributes were not picked at random—one from each district was the child of a rebel leader, and the other the child of a family who had kept their heads down, waiting for the war to end, refusing to defend their Capitol and daring to survive anyway. And—most crucially—not a single tribute was to be left alive. The Capitol would be the only victor.
“There are no innocents among you,” they proclaimed from every Justice Hall balcony. “You will be killed and your children will be killed and that is all that you are good for. Let this be a reminder of the horror you brought upon yourselves.”

~Justice Speaker and the Avenger, a 12 and a Capitol~
Latel gulped, and he began to sweat again. Even some of the soldiers, clad in full body armor, looked nervous. President Parch spread his arms, a wide, maniacal smile stretching his face to the limit.
"Now, ladies and gentlemen, loyal citizens of our beloved Capitol, may we begin the preparations for the rebels' punishment?"
A murmur of agreement could be heard, but no one put their heart into it.
"Let the first-ever Hunger Games begin!"
It was at that moment that Latel saw the flecks of dried blood under the president's fingernails.

Summary
Everlark. Everthorne. The Hunger Games, both in book and in movie, had us focused on two possibly canon relationships. Then, finally, at the end, the finality of Everlark had plenty of fans satisfied. But what about Haymitch's and Katniss's relationship, always overshadowed and overlooked? What if things had been just slightly different? What if we just looked past the wall of canon, delving deeper into the character's actions? What if Haymitch was more than a mentor? What if Katniss was more than a trainee?
What if Aberdeen was real, if just for a moment?Written in 3rd person POV, following Katniss's thoughts and actions. Basically all of the Haymitch/Katniss scenes in 'The Hunger Games' book (omit the one brief reference to Haymitch's name), rewritten with a slight Aberdeen view and basic alterations to certain events.

Summary
It was after the first games that it changed. Because making it so obviously a punishment had simply bred more defiance and rebellion. Taking the children of the most rebellious had not cowed them. It had made things worse.
