The Princess is Dead. Long Live the Occupation.
Nina Hoffmann Leamas is released from a work camp and returns home to Vorhalle to discover her home is destroyed, her husband is missing, and the wrath and ruin of Phantasia's necromancer, Princess Gesche Eleanor Carabosse, has come to an end. In an effort to rebuild her life, Nina gathers an oral history for to qualify for a work card and food rations, and as she pieces together what made her country fall apart, she examines her own life as she wakes up from the long national nightmare and must decide if one can truly live happily ever after.
Carabosse is a retelling of Sleeping Beauty if the evil fairy was a political dictator. It covers the rise and fall of her regime and how the country repairs in the aftermath, while examining the effect of emotional abuse on personal relationships to personality cults.
