To live, we first have to survive
For all Clarke Griffin knew, she was the last human on the face of the Earth, the universe itself, even. She was alone, left behind in the lab while her friends sought refuge beneath ground and up in space.
Five years, they're gone. Five years of just her, alone, hoping they're all still alive.
Five years of trying to make sure she continues to exist waiting for them to come and find her again.
Or, Clarke's wait after Praimfaya leaves her stranded far away from her friends, just trying to survive day by miserable day.
- Part 1 of To live, we first have to survive
"It had been six years and three months since she’d seen her friends. Two thousand, two hundred and seventy seven days since they’d blasted off. Two thousand, two hundred and seventy seven days since she’d known they were alive."
"He’d survived those six long years in space to die six minutes after landing. If he’d been able to laugh at that stage, he probably would. Because what else could you do but laugh when faced with that sort of situation? That sort of shitty luck?"
"Finding the doors to the bunker sealed had not gone down well. They worked day and night, trying to find a way out. They may just scrape it to seven years, if they were lucky, but nobody wanted to get that far."
They were one people, forged from the many, until the Earth had one last attempt at wiping them out. After six long years, they are finally all in a position to come back together.
But life hasn't finished with them yet. They have to deal with reentry, a blocked door and the release of six years of loneliness before they can finally just be themselves again.
Or, a season 5 speculative fic that explores the reunion of Wonkru, Clarke and the Space Squad. And all that comes with it.
