“I could teach you,” Rey says, very matter-of-fact. “What it’s all about, I mean. What to do.”
Ben stares at her blankly for a long moment, her meaning clearly not registering.
When he finally does get what she’s saying, his reaction is immediate and explosive.
“What?” he sputters, eyes wide.
(In which Ben Solo is an awkward virgin, Rey is a friend who offers to teach him about sex, and nothing goes according to plan.)
“Get on the bed, Johnson. Now.”
It’s the voice she imagines he must use when he’s ordering around underlings in NYU’s history department. Direct. Commanding. A tone of voice that brooks no opposition. Under normal circumstances the way he’s speaking to her right now would just be another reason for her to despise him. “Yes, Alpha,” she whispers.

“It wouldn’t be a real marriage, obviously,” Ben clarifies, as though that’s an important point that might not have occurred to her. “Though we’d have to live together, obviously. And I’m sure there are a lot of other things we’ll have to do to convince people.”
(Or: Rey is nearing the end of her temporary work Visa. Her friend Ben offers to marry her so she can stay in the U.S. She says yes.)

“The truth is… I figured I didn't have a soulmate.” Ben clears his throat. “I’m thirty-five years old, and…”
He trails off, not finishing the thought.
“I never thought I’d find a soulmate, either,” Rey admits.
(Or: After years of waiting, Rey Johnson’s soulmate mark finally shows up--when Ben Solo and his fiancee arrive at her wedding planning office.)
