Izuku needed Shouto like polyatomic ions needed oxygen.
In which Izuku can do many things, but chemistry isn't one of them.
"If, um," Izuku stuttered, his face burning red and unable to look fully into Shouto's eyes as he traced the pencil marks on his paper, smudging the graphite lightly. "If oxygen is a diatomic element, then that means it needs at least two, right? It can't be alone."
He gulped, and whispered shakily, "I'm an oxygen atom. I need one more." He took in a shuddering breath, gathered his courage, and blurted, "can you be my other oxygen?"

It was scary - how could it be that this one boy was overturning Shouto's world every time he looked at him? It was enough to have him both awed and fearful, because god, Midoriya was beautiful and Shouto was too tainted to even try and reach for him. He was just a scared, lonely boy trying to grab for the star that was Midoriya Izuku.
Because every time they spoke, touched, or even looked at each other, Shouto felt like his heart was combusting into millions of particles of stardust.
