Comment on And What Happened After

  1. Firstly, I'm so, so glad this story was recommended, it is an utter gem. Seconding everyone else in applauding the characterisation. But generally it gives a very . . . multi-faceted enjoyment, reading it (not sure if that's the best way to explain it?) and if I picked out all the little details I loved I'd be here for hours. STILL.

And it's so nice to see Frodo and Bilbo in Valinor because a) people being bemused by hobbits fill me with glee and b) there's something really satisfying about them challenging the general mindset and status quo.

It's good to see Gandalf still having crotchety moments! And also I now want a musical kettle :(

I very much liked the description of the Halls, and of the Valar. (It WAS the Party Tree Mk. 2 on the tapestry! Aha! Also that is a lovely parallel that had not occurred to me before.)

And finally, geeky linguistic footnotes! I am in heaven, what more could a person want.
    Very excited for Chapter 2!

    1. Thank you for your kind words and for sharing the little details you liked! (And thanks to the recommender as well.)

I'm delighted you enjoy the hobbits in Valinor. As is probably obvious from this fic, my whole thesis is that they are very good for the Undying Lands - that in fact their perspective is something that the great and the mighty have a profound need of.

Hope you enjoy the rest of the fic! (Linguistic footnotes galore await in ch. 2.)
