Comment on Mad as a...

  1. Really, really solid stuff. Really love your voices for Tim and Steph, and their relationship. The way you show both of their strengths and weaknesses was very sensitively handled, very balanced, though obviously I have a bias towards Steph. :) Dick is pretty well written too! Love that he's not quite the loosey goosey Dick that the n52 kind of created - you still have the sense of weight his very traumatic history in the pre-Flashpoint history loaded on his shoulders.

    1. Thank you for the comment! Yes I hope everyone comes across sympathetically in this fic (or the good guys at least). Tim'll have the chance to step up later on. I do love him dearly, he's just also very messy. Lots to work through, for both him and Steph. It was totally subconscious on my part but after replying and reading those critical posts the other day on tumblr I realised that had essentially written a giant response to it in this fic, so in some ways it been quite cathartic to write!

And I'm glad you liked Dick's characterisation, I don't want to imply he puts up a front all of the time, but he's a bit more serious than some current writer's depict him as for sure. I like Dick being a bit ambiguous in what's genuine in his interactions with others... though that may be down to how inconsistent the writing for him can be!

      1. I actually thought about that, too, since our conversations in the Steph tag on tumblr crossed paths quite a bit (I'm ibmiller on tumblr, just in case it seems weird).

I think the way you write Dick gives him a lot of depth, and that's really nice. It highlights his long history - he was Batman, after all - and makes the interactions with the other characters more than just "oh, hello big brother who loves everyone and just wants everyone to get along."
