Comment on A Time For Every Purpose

  1. As much as I love it, in a way the Time and Again series is really annoying. I've been looking forward to Series Four of Gallifrey more than anything (I love Gallifrey more than Doctor Who), but now I'm not entirely sure it will be as good as this. And I'm even considering that maybe the revived series of Doctor Who shouldn't actually be in canon because a corner of my brain is yelling "There was no Time War! Romana and Narvin and the rest got to live happily ever after and the Daleks didn't beat them because after they'd moved time back 6 months, Gallifrey was strong enough to survive!" And how, when I consider most fan fiction over 6000 words to long to bother reading, is this almost to short?
I love how the story alternates between Romana and Narvin's points of view and the way they still have totally different ideologies, despite everything else. The other characters are all brilliant, two of my favourite bits are the conversation between Leela, Romana and Narvin at the end of chapter one and Brax in Romana's mind in chapter three. (I love Brax being "dark & manipulative" but have been thinking about it a lot recently. It was lovely to have him being so kind here, especially considering his feelings towards both Narvin and Romana.) Then there's K-9 and Andred and Darkel (who is brilliantly nefarious in this!) and they're all totally in character. And Romana not waking up properly and being annoyed with Narvin because he’s a morning person! And Leela and Andred being together again! And Narvin being the only person allowed to check whether anyone’s been in Romana’s mind! And everything else!
Thanks so much for writing this, I honestly don’t know if I’ll enjoy anything so much as this series again.

    1. *blushes* Thank you so much! You're far too kind.

*grin* Weeeell, I may have the answer to your entire first paragraph. Possibly. Eventually. It's not impossible I'm working on Gallifrey Time War fic set in this 'verse, and if only I can figure out a way to let them live happily ever after all, maybe it'll even get done. I can't promise on that, but I'll work on it.

Narvin being the only person allowed to check Romana's mind was EXACTLY the reason this fic got written at all. I had this image in my head of the two of them frantically trying to not-laugh and fake indignation at the very idea of him in her headspace, and the entire rest of the plot slotted itself into place around that, so I'm very glad indeed to hear that you liked that bit :)

      1. No matter how many times I read this it's still brilliant. I'm certainly hoping for more and the "happily ever after". And as I realised yesterday, your fics make Benny and co alright too, since the whole universe has been "re-set" and Brax hasn't been able to mess up their timelines (Well, probably, it's always hard to know what Brax is doing and when) so thanks for that :)
And the line "...she makes a valiant and completely fruitless attempt at slamming the automated door, which slides closed just as politely as ever." Hilarious. I love Gallifreyan doors.
