Comment on Love is a Battlefield

  1. Kili and Fili are eachother's ones or soul mates in western from the time they were born they had eachothers name's written around their wrist perclaiming to the world that they were ment for eachother. As they grew older, they grew closer as was natural, their soulmarks grew bolder each year; however, they have a secret that they have kept even from their mom. Around the time of their teenage years a new name had written it's self on their ankels. The name Bilbo Baggins blazed across their skin in golden writting in sharp contrast to Fili's and Kili's own silver names on eachother's wrists. The brothers kept silent about feeling that if they were ment to be with Bilbo they would find him or he would come to them. However by the time their comeing of age day had come the brothers have lost hope of finding their other one, and so they decided to marry eachother much to the happiness of the people around them. Then they go with Thorin on this mad quest to regain their homeland. To their shock and horror (and blinding joy but that fades as reality sets in) they find their Bilbo Baggins in the shire. Now usually their finding their one would be a happy occassion; they would procceed to woo him and perhapes forbid his coming on the quest, cause it was bad enough having their brother-one on this quest and they knew how to fight, but to have a hobbit on their quest that dosen't know how to fight and is set to face the dragon is enough to give them heart attacks just thinking about it. However in Fili and Kili are married to eachother, and in dwarven culture you can only be married to one other. That accually can explain why a lot of dwarves don't marry because having more then one soul mate is common, but because of that old law none of them get married because to "cheat" on one's spouse (even if it's with their one) is punishable by impressionment or death (yeah, that ancestor had some issues). And as the princes of Erebor they have to maintain a proper facade (that pressure does not go away just because their in exile). So Fili and Kili try their best to get close as close to Bilbo as they can while fighting their instincts/wants, things start getting really bad for them while it becomes clear that Bilbo is falling for Thorin and Thorin is falling for Bilbo. This leads to Fili and Kili being the biggest cockblocks they can be through out the rest of the quest. It's suprisingly a lot of work. Then the whole, dragon, gold lust, war, happened so fast it could make their head spin. Naturally (or by some stroke of luck) everyone lives and the rebuilding of erebor begins, and naturally Fili and Kili have a whole new set of problems. They have to help with the rebuilding, convice Bilbo to stay (who is leery about his place with his dwarves and it trying to get over his broken/fractured relationship with Thorin and really he kind of wants to go home but those blasted princes are making it hard to leave), and convince Thorin to pass a law for dwarves to marry as many people as they want as long as they are ones. Thorin agrees and passes the law. However he begins to regreat it when his nephews start courting the burgler, and despite what Bilbo thinks it's not because he's still mad it's because Thorin had been working on repairing their relationship because he hopes to marry him, so now it's a race aginst his nephews to win Bilbo's heart while fixing their relationship and running a kingdom. Bilbo for his part is frustrated that he is stopped each time he tries to go home, and is confused about the way Fili, Kili and Thorin are acting. The rest of the company are just laughing at the crazyness, and silently (or not so silently) rooting for their favorite couple.

This could go a number of ways and If you do this you can decide how it ends.
    1) Fili and Kili win Bilbo's heart (Thorin's heart is broken)
    2) Thorin wins bilbo's heart (Fili and Kili's heart is broken, but they still have eachother) (Me:noooo not the heartbroken brothers ;-;)
    3) Bilbo gets fed up with all of them and leave. (all three gets their heart broken, but they still go to the shire to visit through out the rest of Bilbo's life)

    this is long...

    1. Okay. Parts of this definitely intrigue me, though it would probably be long so I don't know if I'd be able to try it anytime soon.

Also, if I do write this I can almost guarantee that Thorin and Bilbo won't end up together because I can't seem to write them happy endings any more and I also have trouble with Fili and Kili together (if you notice, in my threesomes, they never actually touch each other). So are talking platonic or romantic here? - the best I could probably manage for romantic is a few kisses and the implication that they have sex offscreen.

      1. Yeah Thorin and Bilbo is kind of a pain filled ship...lot of tragic endings in there.

Regarding Fili's and Kili's relationship...I believe that it could go either way. You can decided what type of relationship they have.

To me Soulmates are not strickly romantic...A soulmate bond can be platonic, romantic or even hateful (a person can hate their soulmate) to me being soulmates ment that not only do they complete each other, but their tied in some way, so no matter what they will be part of their lives.

If you do have them as platonic can you tell me how that would change the story?

Or would you have it to were Fili and Kili still marry eachother because it's expected (cause everyone thinks having a soulmate in romantic termes) or because they fear that marrying someone else will tear them apart, so they marry to stay by eachothers side. Or maybe they marry because they know they can trust eachother, they feel that they can't trust any other dwarf because they might use them for power/money/fame.

        1. I don't know if I'd have them be totally platonic but expected to be together since I've already kind of written that story (and called it Mahal's Blessing), but it's good to know that you'd be all right with that. To be honest, I don't think it would change your plot too much even if they aren't romantic because the rest of it should still work just fine - if anything it might just make their desire for Bilbo even more desperate since that's their only chance at non-platonic love.

Also, I never really know how my stories are going to end - at best I usually go in with a few scenes and a basic outline and let the characters go from there. Which is why a lot of my longer fics surprise me too and sometimes even when I'm trying to fill a prompt, I kind of fail. But if I do manage to write this fic at some point, I'll make sure to gift it to you so you can find it. I've got one longer one that I'm currently trying to finish as well as all my smaller one-shots, but maybe after that.

          1. Okay good luck with your other writings!

Thank you for considering, and trying, to write this prompt!

            :)

Have a nice day (or night depending)!

            1. You're welcome. I feel kind of bad that I can't promise anything more concrete but I just don't have the kind of time to write that I used to (and I'm totally getting fired if anyone realizes how many fics I write at work).

              Comment Actions
              1. Well I'm sorry ya feel bad, but like I said I'm just glade you agreed to write it. It's suprisingly hard to find a person who will even get back to you when you put in a request. Even if you don't get around to it for a while it's fine as long as you dont get fired.

Just if you can don't forget about it...I mean if you do it's fine I don't want you to feel like you have to if you have no time or inspiration to write.

If it's not too personal what is it that you do?

                1. I have to admit I don't understand that, but then again I reply to every comment if only just to say thanks. I've got your prompt saved so there shouldn't be any danger of forgetting it, though hopefully the characters won't decide to take the fic on any sharp detours along the way (and I had to stop posting WIPs because I felt bad when it took me forever to write the next chapter so I think I'm just the type who feels guilty about stuff like that). But I've got enough prompts from the kink meme and various people to keep me going for years (seriously, I have one file that's just 10 pages of fic ideas) so I'm sure I'll make it there eventually.

I'm honestly something of a jack of all trades at the moment since we're a small business and people keep quitting, but my official title is administrative assistant (/data entry/AR). It's the kind of thing where I'm sitting in front of a computer all day anyway and I sometimes have large gaps of time with nothing to do. Of course, other weeks I'm incredibly busy for the entire day so it's a bit unpredictable. Though we are getting into our busier season so I may not be able to write as much until fall (what with the whole, not wanting to get fired thing - though honestly, I almost miss being unemployed. I had so much more time back then). But if I ever reach the point where I know this fic just isn't going to happen I'll at least let you know so maybe you could find someone else.

                  1. Cool. I suppose I can understand not replying to every comment. There's this site I go to called Fanfiction and they have this system called reviews where you can get a whole bunch of reviews. The bad thing is you can't always get back to people because some of them have no account, or they took off the PM. Now if someone PM's me (privet message) I try my best to anwser. Though I think things are different here. As far as I know you can't leave no account messeges.

What you do sounds intresting. At least your infront of a computer, and if your usually writing then most people won't look twice at you typing away at your computer. It is good to be cautious though. I suppose it's good your getting into the busier season at least you won't be bored. :)

I can understand wanting free time, but unless you find a way to make money out of creating fics (which I'm pretty sure is illegal considering it's somone elses charactures) then it would probably be best to keep your job (as long as your happy with it).

Thank you for being considerate enough to inform me if you get to the point that the fic isn't happening.

                    Comment Actions
                    1. Yeah, that pesky need to pay the bills just gets in the way of everything :-)

I do enjoy my job though so it's not really a hardship and as long as I'm still getting all my work done, I figure I can take a few minutes here and there to type when it's slow. And as much as I always wish for more comments, I suppose it is good that there aren't so many that replying gets impossible. I'm pretty sure guests can comment still, you just have to type something into the field, but I respond to those even though the person isn't going to get the alert about it and so may never see them. It just seems polite.

(And I thought of a first line, which should mean that this will happen eventually. But still no promises as to when; I'm still filling kink meme prompts from a year ago)

    2. Just wanted to let you know that I have started writing this prompt and I think I should be able to keep it pretty close to what you wanted. I'm still not sure when it will be done since it's still in the scribbles in a notebook stage and this has the potential to be long, but I haven't forgotten about it.

      1. YAY!!! THANK YOU!!! :)

        1. Don't thank me until it's finished :) But you're welcome.

          1. I was wondering if you have had any headway with the prompt I sent you?

            Comment Actions
            1. I swear I haven't forgotten about you. The first draft of your fic is actually done - by which I mean it's scrawled across sections of two notebooks since it got kind of ridiculously long. I'm working on getting it typed but it's been slow going lately and once that's finished I'll need to do at least one full edit to make sure everything flows/makes sense.

So I don't have an ETA yet, but I promise it will happen. I'll gift it to you once I start posting so you can't miss it.

              1. oh thank you, I hope I don't sound pushy, I just wanted to check up

                Comment Actions
                1. Don't worry about it. It's probably a good idea to poke me periodically - I have a bad habit of getting distracted and forgetting about my WIPs for a few months at a time.
I was honestly starting to wonder if you'd even remember this prompt by the time I got it done.

        2. You do like angst, right? Or I guess, more accurately, weirdly cracky angst?

          Comment Actions
          1. I do like angst (at times), but I feel like there should be some humor in between. I do like cracky things if It's well written (or with plot), and can hold me attention. Why?

            Comment Actions
            1. Because - while I haven't actually decided how it's ending - I can't seem to keep your prompt either completely cracky or completely serious. It's leaning toward the angsty with a touch of the ridiculous instead. Though I might be able to even things about a bit in the editing stage after I actually finish it.

              Comment Actions
    3. Just an update. Still working on it; still no ETA. Every edit just makes this story longer.

      Comment Actions
      1. That's fine as long as you haven't forgotten it, and really the longer the better in my book! :)
Thank you for keeping me updated!

        Comment Actions
        1. Well it's definitely going to happen eventually. I just feel bad that it's taken me this long. Hopefully it will be worth the wait.

    4. So... I know this is probably starting to seem like one of those things that is never going to happen. But I swear I'm hoping to start posting this fic by Christmas. I've got 86k written, I just need to flesh out a few sections and have my beta look it over before I give it one last edit. It would be done sooner but I'm going on vacation and not bringing my computer.

      So... this year. I swear.

      Comment Actions
      1. It's okay I understand. Thank you for keeping me updated. Things get in the way of writing, plus writing itself takes a long time.

Have a nice vacation and take care of yourself!

        1. True enough. And I do appreciate your patience. I just feel bad that it's taken me so long. This isn't even the only WIP I've between working on for v years.

And thanks. It should be fun.
