But he shakes his head. “It’s okay. I told you, I can handle it.”
“I can’t,” she admits. She searches for a way to explain everything she’s feeling, and his words from a long-ago morning come back to her. “I want – I want so badly to take comfort in you, and I know it would cost you your soul, and a part of me doesn’t care. I can’t ask you to stop me, it’s not fair to you – to either of us – to put that on you.”
“It’s okay, Buffy,” he says again, soft and sincere. His hand cups her cheek. “You don’t have to ask that of me. I can be whatever comfort you need; my soul isn’t going anywhere.”
