Niall had positioned himself right at the tee for the seventh, sending his feelings of hope and excitement to his soulmate. As Rory stepped up with the driver he’d accepted from his caddy, Niall made sure to send all of his surroundings to his soulmate.
Everyone was quiet and Rory seemed to pause for a moment while placing his ball on the tee. Once he’d done so, though, he flicked his eyes towards the crowd. It almost felt like he was looking right at Niall. He didn’t know how it could be possible for Rory to know where he stood, but that quick glance was enough for Niall to know that he would do well on this hole.
As soon as he hit the ball, Niall knew, and so did Rory. It was a good shot. It was the perfect drive to share with his soulmate, and he was glad he’d thought to do it.
Or the soulmates AU where Niall won't know who his soulmate is until his twenty-first birthday, but becoming friends with Rory McIlroy is a great distraction while he navigates fame and does his best to be patient.

“Woah, hey, easy there,” he says, and close up like this, Zayn can definitely recognize the little facial features that make Niall, Niall. Those perfectly blue eyes, those freckles, that mouth… but then there’s that beard, and that brown hair, and Zayn can’t believe it.
“Niall…” Zayn says, shaking his head but holding eye contact. “When did you get, I mean, like, when did you start looking like that?” He doesn’t know how else to say it really.
Niall quirks an eyebrow and then laughs, although he seems to realize the severity of Zayn’s statement before he’s done or something because it kind of cracks at the end. “Umm… Well, it was a gradual process, like everyone else I think.”

Rory allowed his eyes to follow Niall’s movements. He didn’t trust him a wink, especially when essentially being given free rein by the photographer.
“Catch me!” Niall cried before running up to Rory, jumping so his arms wound around Rory’s neck, and swinging his legs up.
“Fuck,” Rory cried, moving his legs to a squat and lifting his arms as he braced his body to take on Niall’s weight. When he landed in Rory’s arms, Rory had to correct his balance a bit and went a little wobbly, but was able to save them both from the floor.
“Damn, that’s hot,” Niall said with a wide smile.
Or the soulmates AU where Niall doesn't know who his soulmate is, but Rory does, and the way Niall is determined to bend the rules makes things all that much more difficult.

He prides himself on his loyalty, on the fact that everyone he knows has no problem at all confiding in him and that even the shyest and quietest people are easily disarmed by him (take for example his best friend Zayn Malik, master of brooding and king of woe is me).
