Kumiko saves the kitten from a group of thugs who are tormenting it. She has to beat some sense into the boys, which leaves them too stunned to properly appreciate her inspirational speech about responsibility and the beauty of all life. When the boys make a break for it, Kumiko is left alone with the terrified kitten. Her family has always had dogs, and the kitten is tiny in comparison to Fuji. Kumiko tries to coax the kitten into her arms, but ends up scaring it more with her passionate vows to protect the kitten until it grows into a strong cat capable of defending itself.
At a loss, she finally calls Sawada.

Shin, much to his own disgust, comes as soon as Yankumi calls. She's trying not to sound panicked, but is obviously in over her head. He finds her in yet another abandoned warehouse, squatting nervously next to a dirty ball of fur that only gradually reveals itself to be a cat. Shin complains about being called out on a weeknight for something so ridiculous as a frightened cat, but he's not as irritated as he pretends to be.
He advances on the kitten slowly and patiently. Yankumi twitches at his back, eager to swing into action. The kitten all dirt and bone when Shin finally scoops it into his hands. However hard Yankumi beat the thugs who hurt the kitten, it wasn't hard enough.
Yankumi chides him for being so bloodthirsty, but the satisfied gleam in her eyes gives her away.
