The studio was dark as Emily snuck in. The cameras were off and the control room was empty. It was going to be a long wait, but she thought it would be worth it. She walked around Rachel's desk and looked underneath it. There was plenty of space, but not so much that she would be easily visible as the finishing touches were done to Rachel's hair and makeup. She slid under it and settled in to wait. She didn't think about how much trouble both of them would be in if she was discovered.
Rachel shuffled through her notes one last time before she sat down and rolled her chair forward. She frowned when she met some kind of unexpected resistance. Looking down, her eyes went wide as she saw Emily smirking up at her.
"What are you doing?" Rachel whispered, trying to make sure that she wasn't picked up by the mics.
"I'm sorry Rachel, what was that?" One of the assistant producer's voices in her ear told her her that she was completely unsuccessful.
"Nothing, nothing." She waved toward the booth and tried not to jump when she felt Emily rest her hands on her knees. "What're you..." Rachel tried again, but stopped whens she thought she saw Bill give her a funny look from the booth. She had to settle for glaring down at her lap instead.
Emily just kept smirking up at her, waiting for the final hair and makeup checks to be over before she attempted anything more overt.
"Two minutes to air," came over the studio's speakers just as Emily ran her hands up Rachel's thighs. She suppressed a shiver as the live feed from Countdown came up on her monitor and Keith started talking in her ear.
"I'll, uh, do that..," Rachel smiled and nodded, not entirely sure what Keith had gotten her to agree to. From the laughter in her ear, she was sure that it wasn't something good, or that it was at least something incredibly embarrassing. She was going to get Emily back for this.
"And thank you at home for tuning in tonight." It was a relief to fall back on routine for a minute. "Today was a busy day in Washington as the Republicans unveiled yet another new strategy that they hope to employ in the 2010 election cycle. And everyone was so busy because they couldn't stop laughing." Rachel allowed herself to fall into the rhythm of the show, almost forgetting that Emily's hands were resting on her thighs.
Her calm was shattered as soon as she threw it to the first video clip and Emily pressed her lips to the inside of her thigh. She could feel the warmth of Emily's lips through her pants and all of the air left her lungs. She knew that she was starting to turn red, leaving the line between where her makeup ended on her neck and her chest easily visible.
Emily started rubbing her thighs as they went into the first commercial break and Rachel shifted in her seat, trying to cover the movement. If Emily was going to do something, Rachel was beginning to wish that she would simply do it. Just the anticipation of whatever plans Emily had was making it hard for her to concentrate. She knew that she was stumbling over her words. She normally looked forward to talking to Ron Paul, but she couldn't stop herself from trying to rush the interview. Emily was only barely touching her, rubbing her thighs, kissing them. It was barely more risque than a hand resting on her leg during dinner, but it was driving her to distraction. She was dreading the moment when Emily decided to do more.
And then suddenly the show was over and she was throwing it back to Keith for the ten o'clock repeat of Countdown and Emily wasn't touching her anymore, but tucked farther back against the front of the desk. Bill was telling everybody to have a good night over the speakers and the technicians started unhooking her microphone and earpiece, when Emily was suddenly at her side, looking as if she had just walked in from the elevator. Rachel could only stare at her, flabbergasted.
"Hey." Emily took Rachel's hand and squeezed it as she leaned in to kiss Rachel's cheek. "Good show?" Her eyes were sparkling and Rachel had to clear her throat before she could respond.
"Yeah. There were some minor glitches," all of which were Emily's fault, "but it went well." Rachel was turning red again.
"Mmm..." Emily stepped in and wrapped her arms around Rachel's waist. She leaned in for a brief kiss. "Well, I spent the day brushing up on my covert surveillance techniques. It was exhausting and I think that you should take me to dinner to make up for it."
"Why don't I just take you back to my apartment and fix you a drink instead?" Rachel didn't think that she could make it through dinner and she didn't want to wait that long to enact her revenge.
