Work Text:
Emily stepped into the studio and tried to remain as unobtrusive as possible, which somehow lead to her bumping into a table and knocking down a rack of empty clipboards. She winced at the noise and bent down to start picking them up. She really didn't mind that everyone was looking at her. She had just wanted a moment to get her bearings before.... A shadow loomed over her and Emily sighed, running a hand through her hair.
"Aren't FBI agents trained to be stealthy? Because that was like the opposite of stealthy."
Emily looked up at Rachel. "Well, yeah. There's training for that. Clearly it didn't stick. What are you wearing? Is that a morning suit?" Emily stood and incredulously reached out for Rachel's lapel as Rachel slapped her hands away.
"Snazzy, huh?" Rachel waggled her eyebrows and adjusted her glasses.
"I guess..." Emily tilted her head, as if that might make things make sense again.
"C'mon." Rachel started walking through the studio and back toward her office, bouncing slightly with each step she took. "Let me show you around."
Emily followed gamely. "So, why exactly...?" She shook her head. She knew there had to be a reason. She didn't have a lot of time to watch tv, but since the last time that they had spoken, Emily had made it a point to watch at least one episode of Rachel's show and she distinctly didn't remember seeing anyone in formal dress.
"The Supreme Court went into session last week." She pushed open the door to her office and Emily let it swing closed behind her.
"Yeah, my mother was trying to get me to go to something." Emily vaguely waved a hand. "But I..."
"Was in Tempe," Rachel interrupted, frowning slightly.
"Yes. Luckily." Emily closed the blinds to Rachel's office. "That still doesn't explain why you're wearing the suit today."
"Well, you see, there's this tradition..." Rachel leaned against her desk, risking breaking the pleats on the front of her pants.
"Ah," Emily nodded. "The Solicitor General..."
"Yes. The Solicitor General of the United States, by tradition, wears a morning coat when he appears before the Supreme Court. Except," Rachel paused dramatically and Emily took the opportunity to chime in.
"Except Elena Kagan is a woman and might look pretty ridiculous in tails. So you're wearing it in..."
"Solidarity." Rachel nodded. "I'm wearing it in solidarity." She raised a clenched fist.
"Mmm..." Emily bit her lip and nodded. "I guess that makes sense. And I can absolutely get behind the solidarity thing."
"But...?" Rachel could hear the but hovering there.
"The way I see it, you have two problems." Emily sauntered over to Rachel and pressed into her legs, bringing their hips together. "One, from all accounts, Ms. Kagan was dressed in a perfectly normal skirt suit today." She shook her head, "No tails." Rachel's pouty frown was cute, but not cute enough to distract her as she reached up and started loosening Rachel's tie. "And two, you're not supposed to wear a morning suit after 5:00." She pulled the bottom of the tie out from Rachel's vest and started untying it in earnest, reversing the knot so as not to damage the silk.
"5:00? Really?" Rachel was trying not to react to Emily's hands on her shoulders, pushing her coat back.
"Mmhmm." Emily leaned in and kissed Rachel's neck, just above her collar. "And I'm pretty sure that your show isn't on until 9:00." With the jacket in a pile on Rachel's desk, Emily went to work unbuttoning Rachel's vest. "So really," she breathed against the center of Rachel's throat, nipping at it lightly enough not to leave a mark, "you should be in white tie. If you want to get technical."
Rachel squirmed slightly, but Emily was using her weight to keep her pinned to the desk. "White tie, huh?" She pulled off her glasses, putting them next to the pile that now included her vest.
"Mmhmm." Emily unbuttoned Rachel's braces, then went to work on her shirt. "Not that you don't look good like this." She looked even better now that her shirt was hanging open. Emily didn't untuck it, but she did push her hands under it, touching the skin of Rachel's stomach. Rachel sucked in a breath and grabbed the edge of her desk for support.
"Um... thank you." Rachel's breath was caught in her throat.
"But you should probably find something else to wear." Emily trailed her fingers down Rachel's stomach and unbuttoned the top button of her pants. Rachel pressed forward into Emily, trying to catch her lips, but Emily evaded her. "Though, if this suit wanted to find its way to my hotel room tonight, I might be inspired to undress you properly." Emily pulled her hands away from Rachel's stomach and stepped back.
Rachel finally managed to suck in a deep breath. "Tonight... right." She tried to keep the disappointment out of her voice. Why She had thought that Emily was going to... She shook her head. "I think I can manage that." She started buttoning up her shirt. "I should go down to wardrobe. You can just, um, wait here and then you can watch the show from the control room, if you want."
"Yeah, I'd like that." Emily smiled and headed toward Rachel's couch to wait.
