Blaze, with a snowboard in her hand, turned her head to face Sonic and half-smiled. She was glad that fate had brought her and Sonic together again—even if it was only to locate a missing Sol Emerald in a snowy, mountainous region. "It's been awhile, hasn't it?"

"Yep, it sure has, Blaze," Sonic said before putting his snowboard on the ground. "So, are you ready to go?"

Blaze nodded, "Yes. I am."

The two hopped on their boards and begin sliding down the slope in front of them. They passed up several evergreen trees.

"Hey Blaze!" Sonic called out, "Watch this!"

Blaze turned to face him and watched—her eyes widening in amazement-as he performed a three-hundred and sixty degree aerial flip and landed perfectly. She smiled warmly. He was so full of energy and so carefree. She couldn't help but like him. A lot. "Not bad, Sonic," she said, "In fact… I think I'll give it a try."

Sonic grinned and winked, causing Blaze to blush slightly, "Well, okay. Are you sure you can do it?"

"Of course I can, Sonic."

Blaze attempted to repeat what Sonic had done. She succeeded and landed almost as well as he did.

"Wow! You did great, Blaze!"

"T-Thank you…" Blaze mumbled. She had never been praised like that before. It flattered her, made her heart race and her cheeks turn a healthy shade of red. She quickly glanced over in Sonic's direction to make sure he wasn't staring at her. She didn't want him to see her all red in the face. He wasn't staring, so, with a sigh of relief, Blaze continued to slide down the mountain with him until the terrain flattened out.

Sensing that her lost emerald was nearby, Blaze took her snowboard out from under her feet. Sonic followed suit.

"I take it that emerald of yours is around here somewhere?" Sonic guessed.

"Yes. I can feel its presence. Sonic, follow me."

The two trekked through the snow and into a heavily wooded area, stealing smiles and glances from one another. Blaze's body started to tingle a bit, "It's close, Sonic."

Sonic shivered and put his snowboard down, "That's good, but it's starting to get really cold-can we rest for awhile and…maybe make a fire?" he asked, rubbing his hands together for warmth before situating himself against the nearest tree.

Blaze nodded, "I'll go gather some firewood," she announced, dropping her snowboard and heading off into a deeper area in the woods.

As Blaze walked, she kept her eyes on the ground, scanning it for twigs and sticks. Whenever she spotted some, she swiftly picked them up. She continued to venture further and further, the tingling sensation in her body getting much stronger. She knew that her emerald was very close by. Leaning over to look at the ground one more time, she spotted a purple jewel—her lost Sol Emerald—and quickly grabbed it.

With her hands full, Blaze headed back to where Sonic was sitting down. She dropped the firewood on the near-frozen grass, and accompanied the blue hedgehog on the ground, Sol Emerald still in hand.

Sonic's face lit up as he looked at Blaze, "You found it. And you brought firewood. Let's get this fire going—using your abilities, of course," he said, winking. He had always loved Blaze's power over flames. It made her stand out, made her different from the rest of his friends, and that was why he liked her so much—well, that and she was cute, which was a bonus for him.

Blaze's eyes widened a bit, "You…you want me to start the fire? With my own power?" she paraphrased, sounding stunned. Nobody had ever asked her to do that before. "Well, alright then." The purple cat extended her arms out. Within seconds, her hands were surrounded by flames. She shot a couple of fireballs down at their pile of wood, igniting it.

Sonic immediately thrust his hands out in front of him, allowing himself to take in the warmth of the fire. "Blaze," he said, his green eyes sparkling as he beamed at her, "You're amazing."

Blaze smiled shyly, her cheeks turning red once more, which caused Sonic to smirk, obviously amused by her nervousness and shyness. "Sonic, thank you. You're pretty amazing yourself." She murmured, scooting closer to him. She reveled in the small spark that fizzled through her body as her shoulder brushed against his.

Feeling that spark as well, Sonic decided to be the one to make the first move. He placed his hand on top of Blaze's free one, earning a small gasp from her.

Her already flushed cheeks turned a shade darker as she pulled her hand out from under Sonic's. He looked at her, puzzled by her actions. Had he been wrong to think that she liked him that way?

Sonic looked her straight in the eyes, "Blaze? Is there something wrong?"

Blaze sighed, regretting what she had done earlier, "I...it was just a nervous reflex," she replied softly, looking down at her feet, "Nobody's ever held my hand like that-I didn't know how else to react."

"Well, in that case, why don't we try this again?" Sonic suggested. Blaze nodded and allowed him to lace his hand with hers, laying her head on his shoulder (something she had wanted to do for a long time) as he did so. "Ah, so I was right. You do have feelings for me."

"Yes…it's true. I do. I've had them for a long time," Blaze confirmed, lifting her head off of his shoulder and turning to face him, a warm and loving smile gracing her features.

Sonic cupped her chin, smiling back at her mischievously, "Well, since we both have feelings for each other, why not act on them?"

"If you say so," Blaze whispered before Sonic closed the tiny gap between them with a kiss.

When they finished kissing, Blaze smiled at Sonic and then looked down at her emerald. "I guess I'd better take this back home, where the other six are."

"Aww come on," Sonic protested before swiftly kissing her on the lips, "We don't have to do it right this second. Especially since we have a campfire going."

"I suppose you're right. It wouldn't be wise to leave this fire unattended. Let's wait until it dies out, Sonic."

"Yeah…" Sonic agreed, "and then you can show me where you live. You've got to have a great place since you're royalty and all."

"Well…okay. I'll show you where I live."

"Good then. Everything's settled. I can't wait," Sonic said before kissing her once more

Blaze beamed after Sonic had lifted his lips off of her. She was glad that fate had brought her and Sonic together again.
