It was mostly a joke when Aeryn said “Why don’t you just frell each other and get it over with?”
And John and Crais had looked at each other, with exactly the same level of shock and disgust in their eyes, and silently agreed “no frelling way.”
Only, as usual, they were wrong.
They both still blame it on Aeryn, but, in private, they’ll admit that that’s just to save face. Once she put the idea in their heads, it wouldn’t stop grawing. It worms into their every thought, every time they glance at each other, and Aeryn is always there each time they think it.
So when they finally go through with it, almost accidentally, of course Aeryn is there. Well, metaphorically. They may be frelling each other, but Aeryn is frelling them, at the same time. If only symbolically.
It doesn’t fix everything between them, but maybe it helps.
No one is quite sure.
