Proof

Your senses are assaulted as soon as you wake up. The pelting rain leaves a ringing in your ears, the sunlight piercing through the thin curtain stings your eyes and the smell of her…her sweet perfume is the only thing that fills your nose.

It is then, in a flash that you realise that she isn't in the bed next to you; the warm body that had pressed up to you during the night was gone. A wave of disappointment rolls in your stomach as your head flops back onto the pillow. She can't be gone.

Closing your eyes you try to remember the previous night; your brain tries to pick through the alcoholic haze to pinpoint the key event.

She had kissed you.

She had looked into your eyes and told you for definite that it was what she wanted; and you had complied. Of course you had.

Shaking your head as you wonder if it could possibly have been a dream you bite your lip; of course it could have. But the memories of her soft lips against your own; her nails scratching against your back are too fresh in your memory, they're too real.

You turn your head at a sudden noise in the doorway, and the wave of disappointment in your stomach disappears into butterflies at the sight of her. She's dressed in only your shirt; steaming cup of coffee in her hand. Her hair is adorably messy and her legs seem to go on forever.

You swallow a fast forming lump in your throat as she crosses the room. The streaming sunlight casts golden streaks in her auburn hair as it falls over her face when she sets the mug down on the bedside table.

She raises her head slightly, and peeks at you from under her thick lashes; almost as if she's too shy to make eye contact with you. You bring one hand up to her chin and she smiles as you stroke the soft skin there.

"I thought you'd gone," you admit, as she settled on the bed next to you. She turned, propped her head up in one hand and grasped yours with the other.

"If I was intending on leaving this would never have happened," she says, her eyes wide now and her voice full of truth.

You open your mouth to apologise for doubting her, but she doesn't let you speak; instead she silences you with a kiss; her gaze locked onto yours.

And if at all you need any more proof; it's right there in her shining blue eyes.
