They were both sitting on the swingset, as if it were the last time ever they would see each other. But Eun Bi knew it wouldn't be the last time. She wouldn't let that happen... If only he would let her speak. He was so sure about her feelings, while until recently, even she wasn't sure about them. Her sister had helped her see through things, when she had come back. And now she knew for sure. She wouldn't let him go empty-handed this time. She needed to tell him.
Finally, he broke the silence and started talking.
"I know you can't accept my feelings, and I don't want you to say anything."
What could she reply to that? If he said that every time, how was their relationship supposed to work out? The last time she wanted to tell him not to lose hope, and he wouldn't let her complete a whole sentence. This time, she needed to have courage and tell him. After all, she already knew how he felt. It couldn't be that hard.
"It's okay. You can go. I won't walk you home. The bus stop is right at the corner."
She stood up, and suddenly, she knew what to do. She walked towards him. Tae Kwang looked up, she was standing right in front of him. God she was beautiful... He knew he didn't deserve her, but deep inside he couldn't help feeling jealous towards Yi Han. He knew she would choose him in the end, and this was more than he could bear. And yet there she was, standing in front of him.
"Tae Kwang-ah... Let me say something." She added before he could say anything. She seemed hesitant. I can't let him interrupt me this time, she thought.
"Let me do something actually..." she mumbed clumsily before bending towards him.
In the blink of an eye, her lips were on his. He got over the surprise and kissed her back, trying to realize what was happening to him. The kiss was so sweet, and suddenly he realised how blind he had been. His mind was full with her name, and her face, and her taste... Slowly, he pulled back, to look at her face. She was smiling, that bright smile that always made him feel happy, always made him feel that everything was going to be alright.
He stood up, but that was a mistake. It was too late now, they were standing too close to each other. This closeness always made him do stupid things... He wrapped his arms around her in a warm hug. Still, he didn't know what to say. Finally, when she talked, he was grateful.
"You idiot, you really thought I liked Yi Han didn't you? Seriously, I'm not that type of girl" she said, trying to sound offended. "I wouldn't go after my sister's boyfriend!"
He looked at her, surprised - and relieved.
"Yes, ever since Eun Byul came back, or rather, a few days later. They had things they needed to get through, they really needed to talk. About the fact that she left without telling him, but also about their fight, that last night... Yi Han was so sure she didn't like him back and wanted to keep it to himself forever, while all she was waiting for was for him to confess... That must have been frustrating though." She added with a smile. "See, he could have tought you a great lesson: be confident about your love. Not every high school love is one-sided."
He took her hand and vowed to himself he would never let her go.
"I'm never letting go of this hand" he said.
"I won't let you anyway!" she said with a smile. "I love you, Gong Tae Kwang. And I know I should have realised it sooner, and I'm sorry. It seems obvious now. And I hope that you still accept me after all I've put you through. Thanks for always being on my side."
"I'm never letting go, I promise. I love you too, Lee Eun Bi."
