Chapter 1: Arishok/f!Hawke - modern AU, train incident
Summary:
Askbox fic for zimrathon.
Chapter Text
Mariam heavily drops into the flimsy plastic seat, ignoring the murderous stare of the woman next to her. She shoots Aris a quick message: SORI GONNA B L8. CB TRAIN LATE. AGAIN. Scant minutes after she’s sent it, it twitters back at her. CALL IF DELAYED FURTHER. WILL WALK YOU TO WORK. She smiles, knowing he’ll do it, too, though he’s halfway across town.
Too late does she see the rail-thin man place a briefcase on the platform and run. The shout’s barely out of her throat when it explodes.
Chapter 2: Hawke, Mabari, sit and stay
Summary:
Askbox fic for ladysmaragdina.
Chapter Text
“Stay, boy,” Hawke says firmly to the family mabari, who is starting to go grey at the muzzle after all these years. He whines and pads deliberately forward, with not even an apologetic wag of the tail, and gently tugs on Hawke’s garments. His master’s face softens, and the words that come after are soft. Resigned. Relieved. “I guess it’s true what they say about mabari. You’re stuck with them to the end and beyond.”
“Woof,” is all he says in reply, and trots out of Kirkwall alongside his humans.
Chapter 3: Mabari, Fenris, brothers
Summary:
Askbox fic for Tambobill.
Chapter Text
The mabari takes to Fenris surprisingly well. Perhaps it is because he recognises in the little wolf a fellow weapon, and a fellow brother: all fangs and snarls and hackles layered over a heart as wild and joyful as the great green earth.
Chapter 4: Karl, Anders, strays
Summary:
Askbox fic for hobovampire.
Chapter Text
“Are you all blind as well as fools?” Karl hisses. “I don’t care if the kitten is a stray or a noble’s or a magical emissary from the moon! Have you not seen him quiet before it? Each moment he spends with the cat is a moment he’s not planning mischief!” But the Templars are clearly the blindest of fools, and they turn toward the small foreign mageling petting the smoky gray ball of fluff. Karl groans and inwardly prepares for a whole night spent consoling Anders over his loss.
