It wasn't that Sidney didn't like the country, or the lake, or even spending the entire day on a boat pretending to fish. All right, so it was pretty much that exactly, but it was worth it to be able to watch his lovers relax and joke around, even if it meant Geno regularly got picked up and dropped overboard into the water.
Sidney tried to never take sides between Jordan and Geno's friendly scuffles, but there might have been a tiny bit of deliberate intention when he'd distracted Geno with a long drink of his beer -- then licking a drop or two of spilled beer off his fingers while Jordan snuck up behind him.
He would never admit it of course, upon pain of, well, never playing hockey again. But now, in the early hours of the pre-dawn morning, he was beginning to wonder if maybe he wasn't going to have to give it up for good, because clearly he hadn't recovered from his concussion-that-wasn't.
"Sidney, why are you up?" came Geno's soft whisper as he came up from behind him as Sidney stood on the deck, looking out.
He just shook his head and asked, "Please tell me you see that, too?"
There was silence as Geno wrapped one arm around Sidney's waist, pressing against him as the other man looked into the field, towards the tree line where Sidney had been staring. "You mean, is that real unicorn?" Geno asked after a moment.
"Oh thank god, I'm not hallucinating." Sidney felt himself practically collapse, grateful Geno was there to prop him up.
"Sidney, you know Jordan tell us this, before he even agree to sleep with us." Geno sounded worried, but not upset.
Sidney just nodded. "He didn't say he was purple and I definitely don't remember him mentioning the horn being sparkly."
"He said 'unicorn,' Sidney. What you expect?"
Sidney waved a hand. "Something more… He's a hockey player, for goodness sake. Something...manlier."
There was a short pause and Sidney knew Geno was stifling a laugh. "Sidney, he is unicorn. This is manly."
Sidney half-turned in Geno's embrace, kissed him once, then turned to look back. Jordan was cantering across the field towards them, now, blond-white mane and tail spilling out everywhere, in the breeze. The moonlight sparkled off his horn as he raised his head and the light shade of his purple skin looked only slightly darker in the dim light. Sidney realised that it was because it was sparkling, too.
Sidney waited until Jordan drew close, then he began softly humming the theme to Friendship is Magic.
Jordan changed forms, leapt onto the deck, and tackled him to the ground.
Sidney just said, "I'm really glad that thing about virgins isn't true."
