Chapter 1: Balcony Perspective
She was being extremely taciturn towards everyone else around. Rather than go and mingle amongst the other students like a normal college student would, she found it more comfortable to get cozy on the plush red couch that sat around the further end of the second floor living room of the fraternity house, next to the balcony. Her general presence at the party was curious as well. She had no clue about what frat house it was, she knew none of the frat boys either. Never would she associate herself with a silly sorority, the entire concept was total waste of her time. Her only motive to going to these where getting the time to hang out with her best friend, who just happened to be a sorority girl. But only with the sorority parties, she disliked frat boys greatly the only thing special about this was her friends boyfriend was a part of these brotherhood.
Everyone was drunk and smell, either acting childishly, yelling loud or making out much like the very promiscuous couple who made a nest beside her. Occasionally she’d glance over at them while she twirled her hair and take small notes about them. She was almost certain the male was in her Algebra class, the angry one with dark circles permanently burnt under his eyes. There was another couple pinned against the wall next to her. The boy was also from her Algebra class, the annoying hipster guy who was the current ex of her best friend and the female appeared to be the intelligent blonde girl from her European History class, though she couldn’t have been that smart if she was making out with that douchebag. Rose or some sort of flower was her name. It didn’t matter; they hardly ever interacted with each other besides small talk when they accidentally bumped into each other.
These parties were miserable. Her best friend was nowhere in plain sight, her other two close friend didn’t attend the parties nor where apart of any sisterhood or brotherhood. She wished, silently to herself, that one of them had called her up before she came to this stupid get together. However, her as her luck had it, they were both preoccupied with their own troubles.
The moans from the neighboring students were finally getting to the core of annoyance. As one last stand to achieve solace, she stepped up from her almost designated spot on the couch and shifted to the balcony. Unlike the smokey indoor facility, the fresh night air provided aspects of nature that got her thrilled. A soft yet bone chilling breeze would occasionally lift her hair up and some times, a bat would scream above her head. Bats were fantastic creatures, nocturnal cave animals like that made the gears in her head turn. Of course, they could only hold her attention so long when the pounding music and loud cat calls continued to pester her. Smoothly, she reached into her torn jean pocket for her phone. She's quickly send a message that she had a headache and returned to her dorm to her friend and get out as fast as she believed possible, maybe even faster than that.
The screen door behind her shuttered and she jumped much like a startled cat would. "whoa, shit sorry I didn't mean to spook you." a sober voice spoke, with a hint of a lisp tucked within the words. The host to the voice was a regular college boy, only he looked completely unfazed by any of the actions going on around him. He had the regular male hight of the school, along with a some what messy hair cut that wasn't exactly short nor was it long. His attire wasn't very fancy either, simply a sweatshirt with a foreign logo and regular skinny jeans. There was, however, a very peculiar aspect that stuck out. Sitting on his nose was a pair of glasses that seemed like a distant cousin of old fashion 3-d glasses. One lens was blue while the other was red.
"These?" he pointed to the glasses. She didn't even ask a question, leading her to assume he often got bugged about his eye gear. "I'm epileptic. That's why, also they're pretty sweet". His lisp was even more apparent, it was actually a bit charming.
"So, what's you're name?" he continued to calmly speak while he set himself a spot next to her on the balcony.
"Aradia Megido. Archeology Major. And you are?"
"Sollux Captor. Gaming and Graphics Major. Nice to meet you aa."
Aradia quickly raised a brow at his statement, to which he chuckled at "Is it ok if I call you that? I've got a thing for double things" Aradia giggled very softly and nodded "so, 'double things' you say? I cannot say I've ever heard of such a fancy" "totally. Double things are awesome. Two headed snakes, double edge swords, those weird morphed tougher cinnamon toast crutch bits you sometimes get. Awesome stuff." This time, Aradia laughed a notch louder "so you have a double fetish or something?" Their laughter than morphed together. Aradia had forgotten about the party entirely. That frat boy, that Sollux had drowned everything else out but him and her. She didn't care about who much time had passed as the talked, in fact she was extremely eager to find her best friend, the one originally brought her to the party and thank her for giving her a chance to meet Sollux, who she found herself calling Sol in compensation for him calling her aa.
"Are you in a sorority?" he finally asked when it hit at least one in the morning. "Nope, my best friend is. You might know her actually, her name is Feferi Peixes." "Wait, then that means you're Fef's famous best friend she always talk about!" the words, 'you know Feferi' were never spook because right on some invisible cue, the princess herself slammed open the balcony door. "Oh! Thank goodness! I was looking for both of you but it looks like you managed to find each other! Wonderful!" the gorgeous dark skinned girl skipped over to Sollux and cuddled up beside him with her famous sunshine grin.
Aradia felt her stomach do cringe a bit.
"I've been wanting to introduce you for a 'whale' now hehehe" she threw in a classic fish pun with her statement "Aradia, this is my boyfriend Sollux!"
This was very typical for Feferi. Ideology around the boys she chose to date was based upon the concept of 'opposites attract'. If she was the north pole of a magnet, her boyfriends were always the south pole. Freshman year, she agreed to go out with an odd senior with the surname of English. While Aradia couldn't exactly describe him, he was certainly like no other. They broke up shortly after he graduated. Starting Sophomore year, Feferi began to date an extremely cool guy named Strider but he was just that; Cool. Too cool for the jumpy Fef. But further more, the had way to many differences. The broke up rather peacefully. She altered dated a sleep deprived emo boy but that didn't last long, to she which then she dated his best friend for a bit (she was going through her dubbed 'Big Bitch' stage as one of Aradia's close friends called it) and after the messy break up, Fef began to date a Hipster guy named Eridan, the same one who Aradia grudgingly shared a math class with. In Aradia's opinion, he was the worst choice she ever made. Endless petty quibbles and numerous nights Feferi would sob into the warm arms of Aradia. When they broke up, Aradia remembered the most glorious shopping spree followed after.
So for Feferi to be dating the tech boy Sollux was not only a 'as to be expected' sort of thing, it was also a disappointment.
After a painful series of small chats and exchange of little kisses or 'cuttles' as Fef liked to call them, Aradia used her "I'm getting awfully tired and I'd like to stay awake for class tomorrow". Fef got frantic and apologized for making her stay out so late and gave her a friendship cuttle on the cheek. She was beckoned off by Feferi and Sollux with a huge weight hanging off her shoulders.
Once off frat property, Aradia snapped out her cell phone and quickly typed in a message. In her current mood she wouldn't be sleeping to well. She at least knew a back up plan. After the text was sent, she then dialed a number was leaned her back against the nearby lamp post. A sleek punk rocker voice answer her almost within a blink. "Heeeeeeeey there Aradia. All partied out?" "Emotionally yes, and judging by the among of time it took you to pick up I guess you're done stalking you derp?" "Yes and might I say that it went greeeeeeeet!" "Good for you. Is Tav with you?" from the background, Aradia could detect the slight uprising from a male voice. "Yep. Just the two of us, Terezi ditched us for the same smug party you were at actually." "Good, I'm heading over to the den now so be ready."
The 'den' was just the nickname for the tiny flat her friend Vriska owned. The walk over to wasn't to long and it wasn't in a bad spot in terms of shadiness either either. It actually baffled all of them at first to how Vriska even managed to afford the place until you took note of two bigger factors generally unknown to the public eye. Firstly, despite her punk and thug nature, Vriska Serket was extremely good at (legally most of the time) optioning money and keeping money. Secondly, people didn't often know of the close relationship she shared with her rich corporate mother. They seriously acted like friends rather than mother and daughter. The den was the hang out place of a little group Aradia met freshman year composing of herself, the strange occult quiet girl. Next was the previously mentioned Vriska Serket dubbed the schools BBB; Big Badass Bitch. Which led to what a literature student would refer to as the foil of Vriska, the more timid Tavros Nitram. He was a wheel chaired boy who, despite his disabilities, was the most optimistic guy you'd ever meet. Lastly there was a aspiring attorney to be Terezi Pyrope, who was absent that evening due to matters involving a certain Vantas boy.
That was one thing they all bonded over other than odd interests, problems. Each had their own distinct issues slung over their backs. Currently all heated discussions amongst themselves and the minority of other individuals they'd let in. Terezi and Karkat, her not boyfriend boyfriend were prone to silly issues but were never to annoying. Tavros, being a closet gay, had a self explanatory list of worries and obstacles. Vriska's issues all led to the attention of a certain dorky boy, John Egbert, whom she'd fallen down a fleet of 9,000 stairs for. Normally Aradia's problems usually involved Feferi and she was at the advice giver most of the time. The tables had turned, however.
When she arrived at the cerulean door of Vriska's flat, she didn't bother knocking. When someone coming to the denoted Vriska "be ready" the door was automatically unlocked. Aradia marched right in and made a bee line for her spot of the large green couch dead center of the living room. Awaiting her was Vriska and Tavros themselves, both with xbox controllers in hand and engrossed in what appeared to be a serious game of Call Of Duty. Luck of Aradia, her spot was in the center. "Having fun?" she commented. "hells yeah." Vriska laughed. "Hi Aradia" Tavros smiled like the sweetheart he was "We're playing John and Dave." "The boy who throws the 'sick fires' as you say?" "yeah..and it looks like we're" "SUUUUUUUUCK IT" "-winning." The game had quickly game to a conclusion, with Vriska doing a victory dance that she claimed to had learned from the famous John himself. "So it looks my timing was perfect. Now with the games said and done, can we have a f-jam. Please, I really need one" Vriska and Tavros looked at her rather surprised, since she rarely came in with issues so big she needed to jam about it. The simply nodded and Vriska added "I'll get Tav here, you go get comfortable in the pillow pile"
Chapter 2: Pillow Perspective
school, your taking up my writing time.
After finding a spot that she was most favorable, Aradia made herself cozy on top of the obscurely staked pillows located less than five feet away from Vriska's queen sized bed. The pile was a signature touch of the house that Vriska and the others added. Taking the idea from their friend Gamzee, whenever there were harsh feelings involved, whoever was present plus the victim of the emotional hurricane would proceed to the pile and have what was dubbed a "feelings jam" or an "f-jam" for short.
Sure it was odd, but it was irrelevant when positive results appeared.
"So tell me, ghost girl" Vriska had collapsed roughly against Aradia after setting Tavros down in the most gentle yet playful manner possible "what's the deal? You almost never have to go to the pile when it involves your life issues" "Did something happen at the party?" Tavros chimed in "Did someone assault you?". Aradia quickly assured both of them that it had nothing to do with shy criminal activities before either could send a text message to their mutual violent juggalo friend who would've surely sent some random frat boy to the emergency room with at least more than a few injuries. Not that Aradia really cared about their well being, but she didn't want him to get kicked out of college.
"Though something DID happen at the party, I will start off with that. It's more of a boy problem you see-" "a booooooooy?" Vriska howled "finally!!" Tavros tapped her arm from across the pile and gave her a look that spoke "lets be quiet and listen now" and to much surprise, she obliged with out much resistance. "Like I was saying, I met a guy at the party. And let me tell you, he was no casanova, he wasn't the quarterback player an he wasn't you're average joe either, he was…electrifying. We clicked almost right away.."
A phone buzz cut Aradia off, she glared and flipped it out. The screen flashed with an animation of a letter flying on and off the screen.
"I s)(ore ) (ope you feel B-----ETTER" her phone read with the note "from Feferi sent at 3:00am" Aradia slammed her phone shut and flung it backwards to where it would land on the bouncy bundle of blankets Vriska called her bed. Vriska gave a look as if to say "what the fuck?" but it seemed as if she was still respecting Tavros restriction on her speaking privileges. Tavros touched Aradia's shoulder "what did it say, Aradia?"
Aradia inhaled deeply and closed her eyes, scorching her brows "it was from Fef.." Tavros quirked a brow and Vriska made a sound very close to a growling dog. Feferi bugged Vriska in a few ways, though nobody, not even her best friend, knew her issue with Feferi. "Like I was saying, me and this guy talked for a long time. He told me about his interests and i told him about mine. He laughed and joked about the weird things i like, but he didn't call me any names, he didn't make a face, he showed zero signs of discomfort. He was fantastic! And then..Feferi came out…and introduced him to me as her boyfriend." Aradia shoved her hands into her face "i felt like an idiot, there I was flirting and letting myself get swooned by my best friends boyfriend."
"Waaaaaaaait a second, you cannot be blaming this on yourself right?" Vriska barked, ignoring the hand gestures Tavros was making to signal her to calm down "'that's bullshit, Aradia. Don't place this on the dinner table saying it's a meal you burnt when clearly Feferi is a fault too!" in synchronism, Tavros and Aradia shot Vriska puzzled looks. Vriska inhaled and continued on with her rant "Feferi is your best friend, right? you're best friend in the entire world, like you two always say. She broke up Eridouche three months ago and started dating some guy two weeks after that fiasco. And yet in all that free fucking time, she couldn't BOTHER to introduce or even mention the name of her boyfriend to you? That's idiotic. How you behaved was perfectly justified and perfectly normal. So listen here, Aradia, i don't even want to hear you say that you're a 'bad friend because of this, ok?" Vriska huffed and puffed, she didn't even intend to start yelling midway through her monologue. Aradia looked up at her softly "Vriska, are you saying this because of your unmentioned bad blood with Fef or is this genuine concern?"
Vriska shoved her bands out of her hair and rolled over a bit further in the pillow pile "it's a mix of both. A mix of a friend and a big bitch," Only a hint of Vriska's face was visible and from that it was clear the punk was blushing. She was never the best at expression her actual defensive friend-side without a bit of embarrassment,
Aradia smiled "thank you Vriska. And can i have you permission to use that fantastic nickname for Eridouche?"
All three broke out into laughter. 'hells yeah!" Vriska yelled between laughs.
When the laugher died out and the only sound was the menu screen of Tavros and Vriska's video game, the aforementioned boy placed his hand on Aradia's shoulder "Wanna go home together?"
Getting Tavros back into his wheel chair wasn't much trouble. Vriska beckoned them off with her one of her affectionately crude remarks and soon there was nothing but the sound of a few bats and the rattle of Tavros's wheelchair. "Hey, Tavros.." "Yeah, Aradia?" "Are you ever going to come out and tell Gamzee?" Tavros lowered his head and bit, with an added sigh. "I want to, Aradia, I really want to. Everyday. He makes me feel better everyday, even though I have no legs. He's not my boyfriend, and even though I'd like that more than anything in the world, more than my own legs. I'm glad that each day we talk we get closer and closer. These legs, in fact, are what led us to meet each other."
Aradia knew the story. Tavros fell out of the wheel chair and almost got jumped but the scary juggalo came and lifted him up. Tavros gave Gamzee a chance unlike a lot of people, Tavros gave everyone a chance, which made his disability seem so unfair. A nice guy stuck in a metal wheeled device.
"Say that line again, not the last line but before that." Aradia said.
"That we get closer each time we talk?"
Aradia paused and stopped walking, halting Tavros. He glanced up at her with worried eyes that she avoided. "Tavros." "yeah, Aradia?" "I think i'm going to ask for Sollux's number tomorrow." she grinned "I mean, Feferi IS always trying to get me to make new friends, right?"
The night went by short for Aradia, considering she had returned home at 4 in the morning. Lucky for her, her first class wasn't until 11:00, so a few hours would be enough before she had to head into the dreaded Algebra. Her roommate was asleep, thank goodness. She knew that the girl had a tendency to worry and stay up waiting for Aradia.
When she got roomed with Jade Harley, she was a bit cautious towards to girl. Aradia got worried that the sweet girl would disapprove of her odd tendencies and interests, However, she was unfazed. Jade was the ideal roommate. She didn't meddle much unless she deemed it necessary nor did she give Aradia the eternal could shoulder. They had been rooming together since freshman year.
Jade did pester Aradia into dressing up some days and Aradia always listened whenever she needed someone to talk to. Strangely enough, it was through Jade that Aradia met John Egbert, aka Vriska's not-boyfriend boyfriend, rather then the aforementioned punk girl herself.
John had came over a few times prior, sometimes it was just him, sometimes it was with the Strider guy (who Jade just happened to be dating) and a while back, sometimes there would be a blonde haired girl. The same one from the party, the one kissing Eridouche. The more she thought about it, the more time passed before it was finally 10;00 am.
Jade was gone, bed made and backpack nowhere to be seen.
Aradia groaned. As much as she wanted to ditch, she'd have to suck it up and go to class. Before advancing any further in her morning prep, she quickly texted Feferi "Hey, can we maybe meet up around 0ne 0r s0?"
She slapped her phone shut and started to run a comb through her hair. It would be a long day, without question,
Chapter 3: Classroom Perspective
sorry for the long wait...finals and school=suck
When it came to hair, Aradia didn't comb hers as much as other females did. She'd run a brush through it maybe four or five times, just to calm it down a bit, but nevertheless she would always have the pile of hair glued to the top of her head. The only other hair style she had was putting the bundle up in a pony tail. On numerous occasions, Feferi offered to wrap it in a bun or curl it like a princess but Aradia always declined, it never seemed like it was worth the time.
She didn't get dressed up very much either. She usually wore basic attire; jeans (nine out of ten times with a hole in them), basic t-shirts and long skirts, with sneakers or converse depending on the day. The only times she could recall going out of her way to look girly was whenever Feferi begged her to go on a shopping march.
More glamourous girls like Feferi Peixes or Rose Lalonde, even Terezi Pyrope, got dressed up to look pretty for their objects of affection. Girls like Vriska Serket and Aradia Megido certainly did not.
And it seemed that the previously mentioned Rose Lalonde had done exactly as Aradia expected when she saw her sporting a regal yet some how remaining casual dress as she gave her douche of a boyfriend a goodbye kiss.
Unintentionally, Aradia made a loud snort at the two of them, gaining both of their respected attentions. Rose raised a brow elegantly, much like everything else she did, and Eridan glared daggers at Aradia, as if to say 'are you aware of who you are even looking at?'. However, Aradia kept her general, stolid expression and trotted into class without much apathy towards anyone else. Most of the kids in her class she didn't care to much for, so she made it a duty to sit by the most tolerable student in the class; Nepeta Leijon, which was a bit ironic. She actually annoyed many of her fellow students with her outlandish interests, cat like habits and her unique fashion sense (though Feferi seemed to just love it). Maybe it was the oddness that made Aradia feel comfortable around her, along with the fact that Nepeta just happened to be the most accepting person you'd ever meet in your life.
"Hello Nepeta." Aradia greeted calmly. Nepeta glanced over and shot her a teeth filled grin "Good meowning Aradia!"
Aradia took her set and beckoned Nepeta closer "Listen, i got a new nick name for Eridan.." "Mr. Ampurra?" Nepeta's expression feel drastically. "yeah…" Aradia paused "Eridouche" Nepeta broke out into a series of cute little giggles she tried to muffled in the palms.
That was another ground the bonded on, the both strongly disliked Eridan and that was probably what they'd spend the most of class talking about that day, why Eridan would always be douchebag.
Though for the moments when they weren't whispering like school girls, Aradia let her mind drift off, deep into a sea of uncensored thoughts. All her thoughts led directly back to the party, to Feferi, to Sollux, to how horrible and happy she kept feeling.
She finally met a guy who seemed worth getting to know.
But he was taken by her best friend.
However, there was always the possibility they'd break up.
Then again, it was against the unwritten girl code to date your friends ex-boyfriend.
But Feferi went through her bitch stage, who's to say it wasn't Aradia's turn if they did cut ties?
Nothing was really clearing out of her mind, if anything class only made it foggier. By the good grace of God, Aradia felt, the lesson was merely review on a subject that she had already mastered and didn't feel any sort of obligation to give it her undivided attention. She'd catch Nepeta doodling beside her and occasionally Eridan glaring up at her with slender eyes. Aradia almost forgot about her little encounter that morning. Knowing his general behavior towards people, Aradia fully expected a pathetic confrontation.
She mostly certainly saw it coming when the teacher announced that the class dismiss and Eridan stomped over to her after Nepeta gave her a usual goodbye hug. The first thing Aradia noticed regarding Eridan was the flashy purple scarf that her covered his pinkish neck with. the same exact scarf Feferi knit for him during one winters day as a make up gift. Seeing it on him, seeing him wear it with such pride after the way he treated her best friend made Aradia want to rip the piece of cloth off and burn in what Vriska would call "the hottest of irons". But Aradia would never actually act on that thought, since Feferi put so much work into the scarf.
"excuse me, freak, i'm talkin' do you!" the accented voice of Eridan hissed at Aradia.
Maybe Feferi wouldn't mind if she tore the scarf off Eridan and threw him in with the irons.
"wwhat do you think you wwere doin' this morning?" his stutter pissed her off more than anything, though. But she played it calm, played it cool. "I just thought that it was unflattering for a pretty girl like Lalonde to be seeing smooching a douchebag." "wwhat?" Eridan made a melodramatic screech "wwho do you think you're talkin' too, freak?" he jabbed on of his pasty while fingers into Aradia's torso "do you evven KNOWW wwhat I could do to you? I could have you kicked out and sent back to the freak showw wwhere you belong!"
"Or, how about this, you could leave her the fuck alone" a lisp echoed out and in a synchronized fashion, Aradia and Eridan turned their heads to the source. Sollux, visibly glaring.
There he was, like a knight to the rescue. Aradia visualized him with iron armor and a dazzling sword. However, she quickly brushed this image away. Not a very helpful mentality for her problems. "Oh god, not you." Eridan spat. Sollux grinned what one would refer to as "a shit eating grin" and stepped up into Eridans face "Yes, it's me. What are you even doing, asshole. Harassing isn't even cool, it's even less cool that you're harassing aa." Aradia's heart fluttered a bit at hearing her nickname but she quickly punched it back into submission. "you're friends with the freak here?" Eridan chuckled "seems to make sense. I don't see, howwevver, wwhat Fef evvens in freaks like you" Eridan, with shard eyes, glanced back to Aradia "you tell Fef I need to talk to her later."
Aradia's expression didn't lift in the slightest. The only thing that was extended was her middle finger. Eridan gasped, over dramatic like any other drama student, and quickly turned his heels to face Aradia and strutted off and away, where he should be.
"What did that guy say to you, aa?" Sollux turned his attention to Aradia. He was no longer glaring and returned to a stoic, smug expression. Aradia shrugged "I got the 'you're a freak' speech from Eridouche. Just the usual"
"Eridouche?" Sollux blurted and broke into laugher "oh good god, that's awesome, so awesome aa." "what brings you down in the math wing anyways, Sol" Aradia interrupted her won giggles to ask. "Oh, just walkin' around I guess. Fef and others tell me I need to go outside more. Pretty boring."
"What? No the outdoors are wonderful. Like deep ditches and caves.." Aradia started to ramble when Sollux held a hand up
"I got it, Indian Jones, you wanna go grab a bite."
Aradia was a bit taken back. The expected interaction was casual chit chat then an all to painful "see ya" considering she just met the guy a day ago yet already had some serious connection to him.
But she didn't hesitate when she answered "Of course."
They seated themselves at the nearby cafe, and after placing an order, resumed to their spekaing. "If you don't mind me asking, what's the bad blood between you and that douchebag Eridan" Aradia asked. Sollux ruffled his hair and sighed "He's given my group of friends a lot of baggage and shit to deal with. Freshman year, he harassed the fuck out of my friend Karkat. He had a serious crush on the little guy and felt that sexually advancing on him and trying to ruin his other relationships was a good idea. He also cock blocked him a lot, or that's what kk says at least. Sophmore year, he started to pick on our friend Nepeta-"
"the cute kitty girl?"
"you know each other?"
"yes, she's the only bearable person in algebra. She's actually pretty funny."
Sollux laughed again "Bearable? people don't usually say that about her. But yeah, he was a real dick to her. She's also like Karkat's little sister. Lucky for Nepeta, when we weren't around to help her, she always has her best friend."
Equius Zahak. A big, muscular, athlete. He scared most everyone, so he wasn't very popular. However, from what Aradia knew by rumors and what Nepeta said, he was a pretty nice guy when you got past his awkwardness and sweat.
"then of course, there's how Eridouche treated Fef." Sollux went on.
Aradia tensed up a bit, but tried to remain stolid in her seat "he was awful, he'd always run in on me and Fef's dates and interrupt us…and he just spoke such shit, it made me so-" Sollux paused "Sorry, do you not wanna talk about him?"
Aradia arched a brow "uh, no i'm fine. Why would you think-"
"you looked really upset, thats all. I don't blame you though."
Aradia broke into giggles and decided, for the take of making things easier, she'd go along with Sollux's statement about Eridan. The subject wasn't even touched during the two long hours they spent talking. Once the clock hit ne of Sollux's watch, he flung himself up and shouted "shit, I gonna be late." he glanced down at Aradia and with his regular sly grin added "I'll catch you later then aa. Give me your phone." She obligated and handed him the cellular device. He punched some numbers in and gave it back to her. "My class ends at 3, so i'm expecting a text or something."
With no more words, Sollux began to fade off into the distance and Aradia clutched her phone tight, She had his phone number and was on the steps of starting a new friendship.
"Because I can not fall for him" she whispered "that's absolutely not an option"
Her phone vibrated against her chest and she snapped open like a lightning bolt. However, it wasn't the expected Sollux but rather a panicking Vriska
"Aradiaaaaaaaa! I need some s8rious help right now. John, I think he asked me on a d8"
Chapter 4: Text Perspectives
sometimes, you dig yourself deeper and deeper when you're only trying to make things better.
im freeeeeee from school
Aradia was no expert in the field of males and she assumed she never would be. The sheer fact that Vriska was crying for her help in a boy-date scenario almost made her fly out of her cafe table chair.
And she said just that to said friend.
"Vriska, y0u sh0uld kn0w by n0w" she began her text "that i am no g00d with such".
Quickly, she responded with attitude "I don't care!!!!!!!! Now tell me, how do I fucking know if its a d8 or not"
Aradia rolled her eyes. So she was going to plain stubborn, like usual.
"I d0n't know, maybe ask him if it is?"
Her phone flared when Vriska replied, and as Aradia imagined, she could picture Vriska pulling at her raven hair with vigor.
"Heeeeeeeell no! That'll be extremely lame of m8 >::::("
"it'll test h0w much J0hn cares ab0ut y0u then"
There was a long, unpredicted pause between the message following the last one Aradia had sent. It was a good sign, it meant she had taken the time to think about Aradia's advice. However, she didn't even trust herself on the subject so she typed up another to add on.
"if y0u want, i could ask Feferi f0r s0me b0y advice."
If phones had voices for reading off messages, Vriska's would've been screaming.
"AR8 YOU FUCKING STUPID???????? DON'T EVEN BRING H8R INTO THIS"
another message followed "That chick is the last person I want to know about my d8ing life!"
"i'm s0rry, i was just trying to help"
"yeah well…it didn't help! i'm sticking with the first advice you gave me. See ya l8er, ghost girl!"
Aradia shoved the phone into her jeans pocket and resumed her way back to the dorm room. She was still exhausted as a pair of worn out converses. When she had arrived to the complex, it was already two in the afternoon. "one more hour, and i'll be texting Sol." she halted herself up the steps "no. no, Sollux. Call him Sollux. Shorten nicknames after for girlfriends."
But he calls you aa, that's a nickname
"That doesn't count. He nicknames everyone, he told me himself"
he told you at the party you could call him Sol though
"But Feferi calls him Sol, it wouldn't be right if i called him Sol too"
Feferi doesn't have to know
The arguing in her head was blasting like a stereo and was blaring even louder when she opened the door, she didn't her Jade franticly calling for her attention until she looked up on chance and stumbled upon.
mother of fuck.
It was the middle of the day, broad daylight shining through the curtains and Jade's cool guy boyfriend seemed to be having trouble keeping his dick in his pants and his girlfriend seemed to have trouble saying no. All females present in the room, which was only Jade and Aradia herself, were cherry red. Dave, however, was looking pretty calm about the situation since he was pretty much use to it. He didn't lash out at Aradia but just nodded his head as if to signal "sup?" though Aradia had trouble looking at his red eyes while he was entangled with jade's body beneath blankets.
Aradia and Jade still weren't use to the occasional "whoops i walked in on you and you're cool guy boyfriend gettin' down with the dirty" scenario.
Aradia stuttered awkwardly "i'm just here to drop off my math stuff…I'll get out of your sheets- I MEAN hair in a sec"
Jade muttered some weak statement with her head shoved into a pillow she placed over her face. Dave dipped in and listened to her and relayed the message to Aradia "she's saying "hole fuck, i'm so sorry" over and over again"
"it's ok uh, i'm sorry for interrupting you…"
"it's alright, considering you don't flip your shit anymore like the first time."
Aradia scratched the back of her head remembering sad moment. She literally flipped her shit, like it flew across the room.
"i'll be…hanging out with…Tavros or something, see you Jade..bye Dave.."
"tell Tavbro i said hey."
Aradia nodded and quickly absconded.
mother of fuck, that will never stop being awkward.
Aradia didn't exactly head straight to Tavros, she took a longer route to him by walking through the greek housing area of the college. The amount if time she walked through the complex (not including to see Feferi) could be counted on someones fingers. She disliked the houses and the attitudes that was embedded within their system. She loathed all of it except Feferi of course.
"Aradia!" a bright voice broke out, to which Aradia turned her head to see. The formerly mentioned Miss Peixes was charging towards Aradia with a skip in her step. "Hey! I missed you at the party yesterday, its too bad you had to leave early.." she pouted.
how did you miss me when you weren't even paying attention to me?!
"i'm sorry Fef, was getting bored thats all. Anyways, whats up? How was you're swimming?"
Feferi's previous activity was extremely obvious by her attire. She was still dripping a bit of water despite being mostly dry and it some pull over swim suit clothes. Everything about Feferi looked glamours, even when her hair was an uncombed mess. She was a hollywood gem that sparkled even when the off the screen.
"It was GREAT as usual!" she yelled "hehe, whoops"
And she was naturally extremely cute. Boys and probably girls too swooned over her. Not Aradia, not the creepy ghost girl.
"But thats not important whats important is that I learned i'm free tonight!"
"Oh are you going to spend it with Sollux?" Shit. Aradia bit her tongue. Stop bringing him up, stop thinking about him!
"Wow, you remember his name after one night? Gosh, I wish I had your memory Aradia. And as a matter of fact, he asked if i wanted to go out tonight but i declined because" she threw an arm around Aradia "I'm going to spend it with you!"
Aradia's expression lit up "Really?" she wasn't going to deny it, the statement made her jolly. She treasured any time they hung out and that hand;t changed despite Aradia's little crush.
Only it wasn't a crush, Aradia would deny any fact to her having a crush. It wasn't a crush, its a budding friendship is what she'd preach to the choir. It's what she'd remind herself.
"That sounds great, Fef!"
"Yay!" She jumped "Then you better be over at my room by seven thirty after you other class, you got it?"
"yes, I'll see you then Fef"
Feferi pranced off and Aradia returned to her path to Tavros, not with out quickly glancing at her phone. It was four o five, so she's have to leave Tavros at five fifteen to make it to her history of prehistoric civilizations class at six then-
wait a second.
She looked back at them time. Four o' six. "Fuck, i gotten text Sol-ULX Sollux!"
she whipped open her phone and typed in a short message.
she slammed it shut. The phone didn't react at all. Aradia groaned "ugh, I was too late and now i'll have to wait until later. Great. Aradia you;re so stupid" she scold herself until the phone vibrated again, and the another followed not even a second after. She pulled it to her face and read both messages in chronological order.
"I'm ---EXCIT---ED about tonig)(t!! 38)"
she resounded with a typical "s0 am I Fef" and added her special emoji "0u0"
"well iit'2 about tiime aa"
"h0w d0 y0u know that this is aa?"
"the typiing quiirk 2eem2 liike 2omethiing you would do aa"
"I think y0u're a bit 0ver c0nfident, Sollux"
"you're just jealou2 that my quiirk ii2 better than your2"
Their exchange went along with playful friend teasing that lasted so long that Aradia completely forgot about going to see Tavros.
It was actually strange, since Aradia was actually upset to leave the conversation for prehistoric civ, her positive favorite class. She spent the period thinking about come backs and topics for the next time they spoke.
However, Aradia new those would have to wait. She was on her way to Feferi with just her school stuff. She'd be good on everything else. Feferi would lend her clothes, cook breakfast with her and share her shower, hell she even had a special tooth brush for Aradia. While Aradia wasn't the fondest of sororities, she appreciated how the girls at Fef's treated her. She was a regular guest and a support for any sort of fundraiser they held. A few even said if she wanted to join, they'd let her in!
Aradia would enter the Feferi's dorm and then they'd mess with each others hair, put make up or henna on their bodies, talk about gossip, be normal girls. Thats what they'd do and Aradia was trying her very best to avoid the subject of boyfriends and Sollux at all times that night.
"I was texting Jane and she kept teasing me because of how i text!" Feferi exclaimed as she rested her head on a pillow next to Aradia who was admiring Feferi's paint job on her nails. She didn't think out her response at all. "That happened to me too! Sollux was texting me saying how his quirk was better than mine!"
"You were texting Sollux?"
Mother of fuck, today is not your day
"Uh..yeah.." Aradia muttered lamely, not even daring to make eye contact with her best friend.
"When did you get his number?"
"He gave it to me at lunch. We had lunch together." She blurted.
Stop, stop, shut up Aradia
Aradia hesitated. She didn't dare bring up Eridouche, she knew Feferi would start to cry. He hurt her so badly and seeing her cry made Aradia ache.
"I ran into him and decided, since he's your boyfriend and you're happy with him, i'd like to get to know him too. You know, so we can all get along."
And lying to her best friend also made her ache.
Feferi broke out into a smile and clung onto Aradia. "oh Aradia that's great! its so great i'm happy see you make new friends and its great! I'm so happy you like Sollux, because I really like him! Oh my gosh, this is perfect. Now we need to you a guy too! Then we can go on the funnest double dates! It'll be a dream come true!"
Feferi rambled on and Aradia stood there a smiled warmly at her friends unconfined bliss.
She just kept digging her grave deeper and deeper.
Chapter 5: Bed Perspectives
im sorry im slowing than a snail here.
The week following the sleep over was a much similar to a cavern caving in from two sides for Aradia. There was a nonstop stream of events projecting itself towards the girl. Without much control, she found herself texting Sollux more than anyone else she knew. Even in class, they had begun to secretly text each other, Aradia spent the first few days wondering if Feferi even had an idea about how deep their relationship was developing in all honest truth. But then when Wednesday hit, Aradia stopped caring.
The only times Aradia gave texting Sollux as rest was when she was hanging out in the den with Vriska, Tavros and Terezi. That plus to occasionally extras.
Some nights, Terezi would drag along Karkat Vantas. The only thing Aradia and the short boy had in common was their shared friendship with Sollux. Beyond that subject there wasn't much to talk about with him, not that he'd talk much anyways other than complaints.
Other nights, Vriska eagerly allowed John to tag along. The dorky boy asked her out the same night of Aradia's sleepover with Fef. Unlike Karkat, John was just about the easiest guy to hold a conversation with. Also, he'd talk about anything, even the things he had a strong resentment towards (though, when Terezi foolish brought some red velvet cake mix, John was in a very grumpy mood the entire evening. Something about a batterwitch or what not).
At that time during the evening, Sollux was usually busy with the coding projects. Or he called them projects, Aradia was sure he was just having fun.
It hit her when Tavros commented "Geez, Aradia, you've been smiling an awful lot this week. That's really great to see!" he said it shy and unsure but she knew he was sincere.
She also knew for the first time in a few months, she was carefree and happy.
The most interesting occurrence of that week which followed to the next, though, was Sollux's track record with coming to back Aradia up when ever Eridouche cornered her after class. Sollux had gotten extra mouthy the next Monday when Eridan attacked Aradia and Nepeta with a sharp tongue. Between Eridan and Sollux, things were starting to boil over. Before Aradia could even thinking of jumping in, a bigger force presented itself to the scene.
Nepeta ecstatically jumped in place in reaction to the arrival of her best friend.
Equius loomed above the two boys with a radiation Aradia was tempted to call sociopathic. But she knew that it was impossible. He was friends with Nepeta for gods sakes!
"Stop this ludicrous behavior at once." he huffed, not really looking at Sollux as much as Eridan. Both boys remained silent. Even the noisy Eridouche couldn't rebuttal. "Ladies" he addressed the two bystanders "Nepeta, what did this man say to you?" "he called me a few mean names, me and Aradia but its ok!" she grinned "he isn't worth the time!" Equius nodded and glared at Eridan, or at least his eyebrows formed a glare since his actual eyes were covered by dark spectacles. Eridan opened his mouth, but not clear words escaped. He turned back towards them and fled from the scene. Aradia looked up at Equius quickly. He was staring right at her, intense and cautious but very…unsettling. "uh, anyways Sollux, wanna go get something to eat.."" Aradia stuttered. "Sure thing, aa, thanks for the intervention big guy" Sollux addressed Equius with a gentle punch. he shifted uncomfortably. "yes,,uh of course..let us go, Nepeta.."
The unusual duo went on their way and did Aradia and Sollux.
"You ok, aa, look at bit shaken up."
"He was just looking at me funny, thats all."
"He looks at EVERYONE funny, your no special case"
"Are you kidding?" Aradia retorted in her mock British accent "i'm the classiest lady on campus!!"
Sollux returned in kind "Oh, dear me, whatever was I thinking insulting Miss Megido?"
"I'll forgive you if you buy me lunch" she winked and Sollux rolled his eyes from behind his shades "actually, can we go back to my dorm? I finished some coding project, I want you to see it, cos' Feferi's not big into that stuff. Also you owe me since you made me read your long boring thesis about archeology." Aradia felt her face get warm no no calm down, friends go to each others dorm rooms all the time. "Yes, of course and i'm very thankful you read it, I needed that feedback from a non bias source."
"Non bias?" he furrowed his brow.
"if i asked Feferi to do it, she'd go on a rant about how fantastic it is and that I'm the smartest."
Their conversation carried on like that the entire trip to Sollux's dorm. While the conversation took place, that voice returned back into Aradia mind.
deeper and deeper, lady, deeper and deeper
Sollux's dorm was almost exactly how she pictured it to be. There was a massive collection of video games, CDs and DVDs on his shelf, along with a cluster of discarded chip bags. The laundry needed to be done desperately and Aradia was using all her self control to avoid gathering it all up and doing his laundry. "Sorry, uh.." he was sheepish almost..embarrassed? Aradia was a bit taken back but a bit happy that she might be getting a chance to see another side of him "all-nighters..hehe…they make you messy"
Aradia shrugged "I personally make it a goal to get a proper amount of sleep every night"
Sollux snorted back at her, not bating his head away from the mess around the trash can "yeah, and you're also a giant nerd Aradia"
"Says the boy who stays up all night hacking and playing video games."
Sollux stilled refused to make full eye contact with Aradia and every motion he made or that she towards him, he behaved very nervous and timid, much in similarity to Tavros. They ended up sitting on his bed, which was actually clean and made, then Aradia mentioned his program he wanted to show her and he got sheepish again. "actually… I wanted you to come here because I need some help…advice even.." first Vriska, now this guy too? What, do people just think you're an advice expert or something? "Of course, what's on your back Sollux?"
He exhaled and, still avoiding Aradia's eyes, poured out in a fashion similar to what one would call "diarrhea of the mouth" to a regular person.
"Ok, I need advice. I know you're not miss girly girly, 'I date all the quarterbacks and rich guys.' No you're more 'I get more turned on by t-rex fossil than football douchebags' uh, no offense. But, you're still a girl, and honestly you're the only girl i think i can safely talk to for help. It's about Feferi, she'd the longest relationship I've had with a female for the first time. Now i don't do what sappy high schoolers do and count the days and flip out when it's our two mouth anniversary but I want to do something special for her, I want to let her know that's she's amazing and I don't what to do it with words."
He slowly removed his red and blue glasses and finally, he jerked his head up and looked at Aradia straight into her dark eyes. At this point, she was doing a fine job at halting her inner turmoil show visibly on her face.
"Aradia, let's say we were a couple. I know, crazy but imagine it."
I've been imagining it ever since I met you at that stupid party, dumbass
Aradia simply nodded to him and motioned for him to carry on.
"And we've been going out for, I dunno, sixth months or whatever"
That'd be the longest relationship I'd ever manage to hold.
"how would…how would you want me to show that I cared? Without words?"
Aradia raised a hand to touch her chin and averted her eyes to the bedsheets beneath her. She pondered upon all those little daydreams, all those little wishes regarding her little fantasies.
"Well, actually I have two things." Aradia smiled "And I know you like doubles" Sollux grinned. "The first one is, if you were said boyfriend, It'd be so romantic if you'd swept me off my feet and took me down to a some place romantic like a ocean cave or a canyon at night." "thanks for the feedback, Indian Jones"
"I'm not done! The second and more realistic answer is..If you were my boyfriend and you wanted to show me, with no exchange of words, that you cared, I'd just want you to kiss me."
"Kiss you?" he looked in awe. Aradia nodded calmly.
"But i kiss Feferi all the time, how would a kiss do anything?"
Aradia just pretended like that didn't sting a little and spoke "A soft kiss, a long kiss, almost chaste, but deep and warm. No tongue, that would ruin it with lust or sexual implications. Just a long, heart melting kiss says it all."
Sollux fell silent and looked downward at his feet while Aradia stared straight at his face, waiting for a reaction. She leaned in, only more than she intended. "Just a kiss, that can say it all Sollux" he glanced up and was looking at her. Directly at Aradia and nobody else. "so, something like.." he trailed off when his lips made contact with Aradia's.
It wasn't exactly how she'd expect it to be. His lips were pretty dry and he was trembling against her skin. Aradia was almost shining with glee, from two things' Sollux is kissing her and she's given the opportunity to lead. She, Miss unsocial, non dating, nerdy girl, was taking the lead. She pressed her lips a with a bit more for to his, not breaking contact with his skin. The kiss started to get hotter, Aradia felt Sollux open his mouth and felt his tongue beg for entrance. Access was almost granted within the blink of an eye. Their mouths were melded to each others, with Sollux pressing on forcefully but Aradia's tongue still keeping control over the dominance.
He moved his hand upward from his knees onto her lap. Aradia placed both hands gently on his cheeks and continued to probe his mouth with her tongue. He made a pleasured moan from the back of throat, causing Aradia's face to grow a bit hotter and her core-deep self confidence to rise up to at least the mantel of the earth.
"Sollux…" she sighed between kisses.
Aradia's eyes snapped open and she dropped right off cloud nine and slammed back onto the rocky crust of reality. She quickly relocated her palms to Sollux's shoulders to hove him off, more forcefully than she intended too.
"What the fuck?" he hissed as he pulled himself up, like a lame deer shot in the hind leg. Aradia furrowed her brow at him "You call me FEF. I am not Fef." "well.." he scratched the back of his head "YOU"RE the one who kissed me!"
"You kissed me first, remember?" She pointed, remaining calm inspire of the fact her very stability was about to crumble beneath her.
"You could've stopped me, but you let me."
Aradia shook her head and got off the crumpled sheets of Sollux's once neat bed. "I'll be taking my leave now. I hope my advice comes in handy."
Whatever Sollux called at her either wasn't heard or was drowned out by the slamming off his dormitory door. She didn't want to hear it, she didn't want to hear anything. Not Sollux, not Feferi, not Vriska, not Tavros, not the little pestering voice in head. Nothing.
She stormed out and walked away, realizing very well something she should've knew before the moment bursted out of her control. Sollux wasn't looking at her, he had never been looking at her. He was looking right through her to Feferi, just like everyone else.
Chapter 6: Pillow View
im alive. rl is awful but im alive. Im sorry for the wait :/
She wasn't to sure how long she had shoved her face under the mountains of blankets, nor was she sure how long Jade had sat there, rubbing her back gently. All Aradia knew for certain was her heart was now evenly sliced into 24 bits and dropped carelessly on a cold concrete floor.
During that period, she was extremely grateful for Jade's compassion and she was grateful that she was dating a boy who was willing to keep his dick in his pants so she could comfort her roommate. The aforementioned cool kid even made Aradia some hot chocolate with anyone needing to ask him.
However, even with all the given kindness, she was still a mess. Aradia set her phone by her side, waiting for either an angry call from Feferi or a mean, vulgar call from Sollux himself. Maybe he'd tell her what an whore of a friend she was. Thats how she felt at least.
Yet, she never either call. The only calls she got was one from Nepeta to see if she was feeling well and Vriska seeing if she was down to hang out. When Jade answered, Aradia knew she'd be getting a confused and loud visit from Vriska. If the owner of the phone didn't answer the phone, then that meant trouble, and Vriska was always sniffing out trouble.
There was a gentle yet rough tapping at the door. Aradia nuzzled deeper into her pillow. Vriska was extra noisy today, it seemed. She never came dashing this early and from she remembered, the punk chick made note of spending the day with John. Lucky her, at least one of her friends was having a pleasant love-life experience.
Jade rubbed Aradias back before dashing up and padding across the carpet floor to swing open the door. "oh my! I didn't expect to see you at all today!' Jade giggled as a pair of larger foot steps followed in with her tiny ones. Dave's voice perked up "sup man, haven't seen you in a while. Bring any of your sick poetry?"
"um, i'm afraid not Strider. Can it wait another day?"
Aradia recognized that deep, but soft voice. It spoke in such a fashion that seemed very odd for a tough guy like himself, assuming who Aradia thought the voice belonged to was correct.
"is miss Aradia in right now?"
the aforementioned peaked her eyes out from under the blanket. Her suspicions were confirmed, the voice did in fact belong to Equius Zahhak. Buff and nervous looking as usual, but he looked a little less sweat than normal. Still sweaty, but at a minor level for Zahhak standards.
He glanced Aradias way and she shoved herself back under the blankets. She knew he was coming over and she quickly shouted "Please, now is not a good time, I look awful." good excuse, believable excuse.
"there's no need to shout and nonsense." He spoke "I doubt you could look awful, Miss Aradia."
Aradia did poke her head out, if only to get a repulsed reaction from Equius and prove him wrong. To her surprise, though, no such behavior was present. He remained with the same stiff expression "You look fine, albeit a bit tired. Did you not sleep well?"
Keep the facade going. Keep it afloat. "..Yes, i've been having some trouble sleeping recently. Stress and what not." Aradia forced a false nervous giggle. Jade and Dave could've seen through it but Equius certainly fell for it. "I can understand, i've been having some trouble getting a good nights rest as well…" he glanced away but continued to speak "but thats not the point here. I came for a personal inquire. From what i've been told you're single, correct?"
Don't remind me you gigantic asshole "Yes, you've been told correctly."
"well, in that case i was curious, would you maybe like to go out…on perhaps a date..possibly.." he stuttered a bit but was sincere in his sentence.
Aradias face was colored shock. Jade was wide eyes behind her glasses and Dave's mouth was slightly ajar.
"that sounds…" Aradia fumbled. She was honestly more confused than ever. her feelings were a mixed up smoothie and she was having trouble sorting things out when her head was throbbing and her eyes were foggy. But her mouth was faster and worked for her.
"that sounds like a wonderful idea."
Equius broke out into a relieved grin, it was almost precious and endearing expect for the fact it nearly resembled Solluxs rare actually-content goofy grin.
While they worked out date plans, Aradias sea of thoughts crashed and thrashed against rocks.
This is your gold card, for getting better so stop thinking about that noisy bee was the only clear though Aradia could comprehend by the time Equius left.
It had hardly been an hour after Equius had left before Vriska came barging in with her arms looped not Johns. Like Aradia predicted, she was noisy in her entrance which was accompanied by a series of giggles from John. Aradia didn't move out much from her blankets from Vriska. That spider has seen her at her worst and vise versa. John began to chat with Dave and Jade. She picked up bits of their conversation in between Vriska chatter.
"So what the hell is going on with you, Aradia. you look like you went to a killer acid party."
her eyes narrowed "you didn't go to an acid rave without me didn't you?"
Aradia groaned and her expression dropped to an unimpressed one "Vriska, i promise you i've been to no acid raves without you tagging along"
"Then whaaaaaaaat the hell is your problem?"
"Not important." Aradia tried to dismiss her and burrow back under the blankets but Vriska sharp nailed hand halted her efforts "Nope. You're not doing this. Explain. Pronto."
Aradia shook her head but complied. She explained the entire situation int he quickest, nonchalant fashion she could possible muster up. Normally, dung a conversation, Vriska would throw in her input or make faces but she did none of that. She stayed straight faced and serious. By the time Aradia finished up, Vriska started grinding her teeth.
"What did i tell you, Feferi is nothing but trouble. Trouble for the mind, trouble for the heart."
"Vriska" Aradia protested "Vriska this isn't Feferis fault Sollux kisses me! Feferi wasn't-"
"wasn't there, I KNOW Aradia!!"
"Then why are you so determined to blame her?" Aradia took breath "Vriska, please. Can you give me a bit more depth as to why you hate her? Beyond all this. There's got to be a reason."
Vriska hesitated, looking both ways to make sure John was still preoccupied with Jade and Dave.
She leaned into Aradia hair, getting caught in it so much Aradia could feel her warm, shaky breath kiss her skin.
"before this, like as in this college, Feferi and I went to the same high school. Back then she was mine. Not mine as in my former best friend. She was my girlfriend."
Chapter 7: Bed View
next chapter will be more Sollux/Aradia/Equius centered but this is more focused on our favourite spider giving some food for thought
Aradia's eyes might've popped right out of her skull and her tongue seemed to be on the very verge off rolling completely out of her mouth.
"..come again?" she asked rather calmly, despite being told maybe the most unlikely idea she would've ever pinned on Feferi and Vriska's history. On a few occasions in the past, the others had joked around with Vriskas sharp comments directed at Feferi, usually saying "oh Vriska if i didn't know any better I'd say you have a little crush on Fef!" and you'd all laugh and friend-punch each others arms but it was all for fun and games.
But there was something in the spider punks eyes that seemed different. Conflicted almost. She was breaking eye contact with you every few seconds, however not out of any shame. She eyed her boyfriend constantly, to be perfectly sure he wasn't ever picking up the smallest detail of the conversation.
Vriska rubbed her spiky hair and took a long, deep inhale. "It was in high school, of course. I met Feferi during sophomore year, I had just transferred from the mean streets of Cincinnati to the smoldering shit hole of Orlando. I was a pissy girl, picked a fight with who ever got in my way and i only hung out with the skater kids, so I wasn't any different then as I am now, giver take a few habits." Vriska paused for half a second to rub her pink wrists but carried on "I was in Biology with feferi and I disliked her, without even knowing her!! She looked rich and a goody goody, the polar opposite of me. One day, though, i guess the tables turned on my thoughts of her because I managed to be walking by when a few dick heads were giving her trouble. Had her pinned and were taking shit outta her bag."
"And, well to be blunt, I raged. Hard. I ran on in, flung on bitch over my shoulder and into a wall then took the other one down to nut sack bruise city, brought to him by my sick vans. But yeah, so I helped her up and she was really..nice to me and started cussing about how those guys were awful shit stain. I was surprised, man, i didn't think she had it in her! So, we started to talk become friends and all that jazz. She sat with me in Bio, walked with me in the halls, she'd even eat lunch with me. She got along with my other pals really good too, though I remember Meenah always had some sorta issue with her, never found out why, maybe after Feferi made that comment about her hair-"
"Vriska." Aradia motioned with her hand for a pause.
"Oh fine. Anyways, during Junior year, I asked her out. I was certain it would end up awful but she said yes! I was so pumped! I…I couldn't believe it! Here it was, trashy punk Vriska Serket was taking classy and sassy Feferi Peixes to fucking prom! It was amazing. But then our futures hit us. her mother had her future all planned out for her, while i was lost in a big swamp in regards to mine. However, mom came home one day and told me after pulling strings with old friends and old clients, aka the shit who couldn't pay, she got me into a college and with a nice dorm and shit! When i told Feferi, we found out we were going to the same college! I was freaking out! I'd get to got to college and have an awesome girlfriend!"
"But the summer before college, Mid-July i think, Feferi cut me off. She said that we both needed to move on. Nothing more, nothing less. and let me tell you, Aradia, I fell hard. It's like I was some little kid getting to meet the douche dressed as santa at the mall but then he caught on fire."
Albeit the screw up analogy, ever drop the Vriska spoke was spoken true. And pained.
"So thats my root of anger. Never thought I'd date again. Not until Egbert here. He remind me of Feferi yet at the same time he got her off my mind. Feferi always seemed nervous the first few weeks that we dated, despite saying she was unashamed but right when I started dating John, he held my hand right away and waltzed around campus, in a proud sort of way saying "hey bitch, this is my lady and she's waaaaaaaay more fine that you chick" expect I doubt he'd ever say that. Unless with Dave over there but i'm getting off topic. Point it, I can't trust Feferi with myself or my friends."
"Because she broke up with you?"
"No because she never gave me a reason." Vriska said in a low tone "she never said goodbye."
Vriska ran a hand through Aradia's hair and smiled the most heartfelt smile she could produce on her face, whites till looked sort of sinister. "I know it's rough sailing right now but…I'm sure this ship's gonna settle itself soon with you and whoever you might end up with when all this is over." Vriska rose from the bed and winked "Enjoy your date with horse boy, ghost girl. Be sure to packa towel" "Oh he'd not that bad.." Aradia nervously laughed. The spider punk rolled her eyes and flipped her head over to John. "Hey, John, lets get outta here. I'm getting hungry here, you wouldn't leave a lady hungry would you??" John grinned and stepped over to her "right, sorry about that babe. Just had to inform Dave on some awesome movies and shit."
Aradia paid no mind to Dave's lame retort, but focused in on the slight blush on Vriskas face.
Together, the happy couple shouted "later, losers!" and ran out in a fleet of giggles.
Aradia giggled with them but that smiled faded fast when her thoughts turned back to the one person who smiled the most. Feferi said she'd told her everything about her high school days after Aradia spilled her beans. Feferi promised to be truthful and keep every detail in, no matter how scandalous.
Her thoughts molded into a giant cross road.
You don't always know people as much as you think you do, eh?
Chapter 8: Movie View
i ain't dead yet.
When date night with Equius arrived, Aradia gave herself a pat on the back for flawlessly dodging all and any chances of coming face to face with Feferi or Sollux. She had her phone off all week and if she needed to speak with someone she went to them personally.
Of course, it didn't change the fact that the girl was uneasy about the date, considering it was at a nice restaurant and a nice movie afterwards. Vriska assured her that she'd be at the movies in the back with John to make sure it goes well (though Aradia was placed her bets on Vriska making out with John the entire time)
but regardless it put Aradia at a bit more ease. Nepeta informed her she didn't need to worry about Equius pulling any sexual stunts and he'd probably be too shy to hold her hand, and Aradia would be lying if she denied that being an endearing trait.
He had picked her up in his surprisingly nice blue car, give or take a few dents from what Nepeta referred to as "his really awful day fits". Seeing the damage done made Aradia shiver when she pictured Equius in a fit of rage. He could brake her over his knee if he so desired.
The car ride was nice, in fact talking to Equius was fairly easy once you got past the awkward aura coating him.
The restaurant was even nicer than the car, with its only 'dents' being a smell dumpster in the front that looked as if it needed to be taken out desperately. Aradia began to ramble about how she couldn't afford this place and how she probably wouldn't be able to pay back Equius for a long time but he just held his hand up and dismissed her concern saying it was his treat and it's "propurrr date manners" he said in a Nepeta-mimicking voice.
For the first time since Sollux, Aradia laughed, Rich and blissful.
Her mood had climbed rapidly and she was almost glowing by the time the waiter gave them their drinks and took their order.
Fate, however, seemed to have plans to put a shade over her gleam. And it worked when a slick and clean Feferi walked in with her arm rapped around Sollux. Aradias expression dropped and her hands started to fiddle with her hair.
"is something wrong Aradia?" Equius's brows furrowed and his voice held obvious concern despite not being able to see concerned eyes.
"I'm totally fine, what were you saying" never came out. It never had a chance because a lisped voice pushed them out of the way.
"Excuse me, my I have a word with Miss Megido here?" Sollux loomed directly over Aradia, and her internal voices began to scream. Equius looked up and grumbled a bit "make it quick" his voice was reminiscent of a big dogs growl. Aradia had half wished Equius would've acted possessive and said "no, we're busy" but her other half wanted to talk to Sollux. No matter how harsh it would get.
Sollux nodded and quickly ceased Aradia by the wrist and yanked her up and away. Aradia noticed Equius stiffen his posture and had a quick fear he might dent Sollux like he did his own car. However, no such reaction occurred.
Being dragged off into the farther area of the restaurant, Sollux finally released Aradia out of his grip and hissed "what are you doing with him?"
"geez, i guess i'm doing exactly what you're doing; It would appear i'm on a date!"
"get off you high stool, this isn't a date this is a way to get back at me isn't it aa?"
"i think it's YOU" she jabbed her blue painted nail right into his chest "who ought to get off the high stool! He asked me out and It would've been rude to say no"
"But you don't even like him!!" Sollux barked back.
"Says who? Who's to say i won't develop feelings for him? Who's to say i'm making the wrong chose? WHO are YOU to say how i feel Sollux" her voice began to go up notches with each statement "And why is it you even care about who i date?"
"You can do better than him."
Just fucking stop.
The dam busted. The sight of the angry boy with 3-d glasses began to blur with tears and the bustling sounds became unimportant behind Aradia's yelling "Maybe this is the best I can do! Maybe i tried to do better and i ended getting hurt more than i thought! Maybe i let myself get wrapped around an object that was never even mine to own if the first place! Maybe, just maybe, i don't care about how good i can do. MAYBE I just want to make someone and myself happy!"
A few heads had already turned towards their way and two familiar faces ran up behind Sollux and Aradia.
While no implication to a fight was notable, Feferi had both arms holstered around Sollux's waist and gripping tightly. Equius, in the most gentle yet strong way he could, took hold of Aradias hands and pulled back slightly. "Lets good, Aradia." he spoke raspy with a pair of glaring eyes aimed at Sollux. He had little to no idea upon what occurred between them, but he seemed like the least positive influence on Aradia.
They left without eating, only with a bubbling apologetic Aradia and a sour tastes in both of their mouthes.
Despite everything, Aradia instead the not miss the movie. The two both found the had an interest in seeing the new Batman movie greatly even though they were for different reasons (Equius enjoyed action movies as such while Aradia wanted to critique it)
and without surprise, Vriska and John were already seated in the theater, curled up next to each other. Vriska winked at Aradia and John waved.
The rest of the night was spent in most silence save the movie itself, a few laughs and comments that Equius and Aradia whispered to each other during different scenes. But it wasn't annoying it was almost what Aradia needed most. Not fully just almost, with just one missing piece that Aradia continued to push to the back of her mind.
Any voice inside her head would quickly get interrupted by an explosion on the screen.
"If you could excuse me, I'd like to use the facilities, if thats alright to make you wait." Equius spoke as they walked out. Vriska chimed in "Yeah, I gotta pee pretty bad. John can keep you company, Ghost girl." she nudged Aradia's shoulder and laughed.
Aradia stood beside John, who did stand near to keep you company. However he wasn't striking a conversation, he wasn't looking at the movie posters, he didn't even pay mind to Aradia. He had a different mood to him, a much more stone like appearance.
John was glaring at something, glaring hard.
Aradia nudged over to him and traced his line of sight. People gushing out of the theater, but one girl waiting for her boyfriend to return with whatever he forgot out of the seats. She hadn't noticed them yet and it took a bit of time for Aradia too recognize who the young lady was.
It was the smart girlfriend of Eridouche, Rose Lalonde, totally oblivious to Johns glares until finally she glanced up, first making eye contact with Aradia with a small wave but when she made her way up to John, his face shot in the the other direction and her expression dropped from pleasant to guilty.
The awkward vibes dissipated once Rose left with her boyfriend and the other two returned. Equius had his own ride and Vriska was walking, leaving John to take home Aradia which he assured was not trouble since he had to drag Dave out of Jades bed.
As soon as they got in the truck, Aradia didn't hesitate to ask "Why were you glaring at Lalonde so hard."
John bit his lip a bit and rubbed his head "Rose and I were dating. Well sort of dating. I never asked her out yet she'd come over when Dave was out. We'd make out, we'd talk, we'd have sex too if we felt like. I really liked her a lot, I never sake her out because she acted like she was dating me but when I went to actually ask her out, she told me she couldn't see me anymore. Apparently, so she says, I wasn't mature enough for her, not sophisticated. She was a pair of six inch heads and i was an ant, she stepping all over me. God I was miserable. She found some fondness of Eridan and I didn't match up. My first thought was 'what a fucking bitch move!' I was really depressed, so much Dave tried to bust open Eridans lips and yell right in Roses face, but I stopped him. While I was depressed, I was asked to tutor another student. That student was non other than Vriska herself."
He trailed off and went silent with the night. Aradia played with her fingers.
"You're still upset?"
"Yeah, i mean don't get me wrong, Vriska is wonderful and amazing but I knew Rose so well, and she just made me really happy…"
"I think i see where you're at…"
"It's easier to cope with, thought, because I didn't have those same feelings for Vriska when she said she liked me but I gave it a chance anyways. And it worked for the better actually, because I let those feeling develop and something good came out of it besides getting a girlfriend."
Aradia tiled her head towards John.
"Rose apologized to me. And I'm not just ready to forgive her yet but i'm still pretty damn happy!"
"why did you tell me all this without hesitating." Aradia asked her final question.
"Because Vriska already knows and she's told me that you're fond of sad storied with happy endings."
Chapter 9: Truth views
once again sorry for the long wait, school started.
warning, OOC Aradia i guess, being all upset and stuff.
probobly two more chapters or three.
It was so rare for Aradia to get overly stressed over things. She's approach an issue and treat it with care, thinking over things thoroughly and behaving very mature.
Of course this only applied to normal circumstances.
The changing of the tides resulted in Aradia draped over her toilet seat preparing for the upcoming vomit that was climbing its way up. They same thing that had been occurring for the past four nights. She saw Equius and Vriska and everyone during the day but at night, she sat miserably. After the second night, Jade suggested she spend her nights with Dave, for the sake of less stress of Aradia's part (she'd been worrying Jade and worrying a nice girl like her just made it worse).
But when the third day came, she didn't talk to anyone. She canceled her date with Equius, denied Vriska, Terezi and Tavros for gaming nights or movie nights. She only woke up to go to class and then returned to the dorm and resumed her wallowing. There was only one person she spoke to that third day, though.
"It would mean a lot to me if you could tell them that, ok?" She spoke over the phone very hushed despite nobody being there to hear her anyways.
"of course I will Aradia, you can count on me!" the male voice replied to her, given enough time to finished his sentence before Aradia hung up.
After the story telling in the car, she sprung up some strange connection with John. She trusted he'd relay the message and maybe clear up a few things.
One less brick off her shoulders then-
a large booming on her doors threw the bricks right back on her shoulders.
"yes, yes i hear you hang on!" she snapped.
Aradia stomped across the carpet, bare painted nails causing a miniature earthquake with every stride. She swung open the door, half expecting a moody Vriska or a concerned Tavros.
What she got instead was an inch taller, tan female with two arms planted on her hips. She had a long cascade of dark brown hair that was messier than how it normally was, suggesting that she had maybe been pulling at it from stress. She wore no make up, instead it was replaced by a hint of sleep-deprived shadows under her eyes.
Feferi was there, in the flesh. At Aradias door. With a fierce expression painted on.
"What the hell is going on with you Aradia?"
The aforementioned females throat when dry. The last person she wanted to see or even expected to see was looming right before her dorm room, dressed as sloppy as someone like Feferi could get (which in retrospect, still seemed nice) glaring right through Aradia's skull.
"um, hi Fef.." was the only lame thing she could muster up. "Hey Fef? Hey Fef? Thats' all you have to say to me? All you have to say is hey?" she growled "Not even a text message? Or a call? You could've warned me before you decided to lock yourself up in a fish bowl and not talk to ANYONE! I thought i was your best friend Aradia!" tears had already began to form in the corner of her eyes.
Aradia began to wave her arms around frantic and made a motion to place one on Feferi's shoulder but the tan female quickly swatted her away. She stormed right past where Aradia stood and dropped her butt right onto her bed, folded her arms and look up at the other female with glaring eyes that demand an explanation.
"uh..I don't know what to say.." "What the hell happened at that restaurant? Sollux came back to the table practically in tears Aradia!!"
Trigger warning, bitch.
"Excuse me? Excuse me, he was in tears? What was he in tears, this was all his fault in the first place, if it weren't for him, then this wouldn't be-" Aradia stopped and took a moment to focus in on Feferi's expression. Her mouth dropped and brows formed a confused image. "Did he say something to you? He hasn't been harassing you behind my back has he, because I swear Aradia, I will go down and stomp all over his sorry ass-"
"No Feferi. I'll tell you what he did, I'll tell you what I did too. I fell for him Feferi, I fell into a ditch of feelings and mushy romance regarding your boyfriend. I liked being around him more that fossils. Fossils, Feferi, my one true passion. That's how much I like…liked him. I liked him before I even knew you two were dating and I just…I couldn't say anything to you about it. He wasn't awful like anyone else in you dated in this damn school and you looked so happy, so I tried to ignore it all I could but then he ran into me again and we started talking. I thought very little of it I just through we could be friends, so I could still play some major role in this relationship. Besides what I always am, the creepy best friend of the fabulous Feferi Peixes. But then in comes Sollux Captor, a boy who doesn't act like that, who doesn't treat me like I'm your freak of a shadow and made me feel like a dumb girl in a teenaged romance flick. We continued to talk and one day it just…I just…couldn't resist. He came to me asking for advice and he kissed me. He kissed me and kissed him back, I didn't try to stop him at all. And then while we kissed, he said your name and I…we fought and he ran off."
"In the restaurant, with Equius, he pulled me aside and began to lecture me like I was a child about going on a date with Equius and I broke and yelled at him.. and then..It broke my heart, this entire situation was destroying me on the inside. And I was so confused and I hated myself. For doing this to myself and hurting everyone along with it, lying and all this shit. I'm not even ME anymore."
Feferi was up on her feet, jaw dropped and a hand raised. she was positioned so stiffly yet her arm looked as if it was about to swing at Aradias jaw at any given moment. Her expression was hard to pin, but it was some mix of pissed beyond all reason and confused in every what possible. "What kind of friend doesn't tell her best friend about liking her boyfriend? How could you keep something so huge from me?"
"Don't you dare talk about keeping huge things a secret, miss former girlfriend of Serket."
That wasn't supposed to come out at all, but Aradia was a boiling pot and she really didn't give a shit about anything at that point.
Feferi's jaw dropped as far is too anatomically go and she began to stutter every noise coming from her mouth. She dropped her hitting arm and turned tail to Aradia.
She was almost half way out the door before she muttered. "Aradia. You spoke in past tense, like you don't even care about him, yet I can't shake the feeling you still like him. More than you want to say."
Chapter 10: Bush Perspective
Guess who's back
tell a freind
espite the thickness of the air outside, Aradia managed to get herself to take a walk. It was an act of mixed feelings, while she still wanted to cram her face under a pillow, getting some fresh air might just do a little justice. She drove a comb through her hair half heartedly and just picked out whatever outfit was first accessible when she opened her drawers.
It was also an act out of feeling guilty for making hogging up the living space between Jade and herself. The girl was already giving her a lot of space, and although Jade reminded her she had no qualms about staying in Daves dorm (Dave, in fact, looked a little too giddy), Aradia still felt bad. She sent her one message before leaving the house saying she'd be out for a bit, and would possible stay the night at Vriskas so the dorm was hers for then night.
The walk was at least pleasant. The leaves were mostly orange and red, they produced a blanket across the surface of the campus. Compared to the chaotic warfront her mind had became, the outside world seemed to look a little brighter. Not bright enough to draw the perpetual frown off Aradia's lips, however.
That all went crashing down in a pit of fire within minutes of catching glimpse of the large bolder of a person walking down the sidewalk. Equius was out on the hunt, not alone, however. Nepeta kept up with the man and was vividly waving her arms about and going on about something, Equius has his full attention set on Nepeta, Aradia noted, so the fleet from any form of awkward social interaction could be avoided would be easier to pull off.
It would be easy as could be, Aradia would take a sharp turn right, take a shortcut past the schools on campus cafe, cross through the liberal arts hall and reach sanctuary in the church of Vriska Serket.
Hypothetically, Aradia would happily do this if it weren't for the fact if she took a turn right, she'd be heading face to face with Sollux fucking Captor.
What the hell. What the HELL is he doing? He's just standing there, breathing in his douchey air like its nobodies business which it never is.
With the grinding of her teeth, Aradia glanced back at the duo walking towards her. Still neither had noticed but it looked like Nepeta was slowing down her train of thought; Aradia would be out of time soon. She had to act smart and act fast.
Megido only did half of that, because while it was a fast reaction, few would consider jumping into a bush a smart move. She fuddled around in the leaves for a second or two before planting herself solid into place. Complete cover achieved and perfect voyeurism chances were on the horizon so it looked like some Captor watching was an upcoming feature in Aradias life.
He looked awkward standing there. He hadn't yet taken a seat, he was flipping his phone in and out of his pockets ever other minute. The minutes between were spent glancing up at a clock located on the cafes roof top and then back at the campus. He glanced at the cluster of bushes only once and waved, to which Aradia had glanced over quickly to see that Nepeta was eagerly acknowledging him.
The position was dangerous to be in. If Sollux or anyone for that matter caught her, she'd be pinned as a stalker and a freak, a bigger freak than she was already made out to be. But if she stood in the plain sight of everyone, it would be an embarrassing meltdown on her part and a chance to get the entire situation into the public eye.
And the situation only seemed to want to get worse. Whoever Sollux was waiting on had arrived on the spot; Feferi in her tan, swimmers body glory. Feferi, did not meet up to normal expectations. She didn't greet Sollux with a gleam of joy like she normally did. The skip in her step was clearly absent, as was her default smile. She nodded her head and said a few things to Sollux, which would be useless to try and decipher considering the distance and that Aradia couldn't read lips. She could only guess what was going on by body language.
The two did not take a table, they just stood there with uncomfortable expressions. Feferi fidgeted with her hair nonstop and Sollux continued to look at his phone, so much it go a loud reaction out of Feferi that even Aradia could hear. "Sollux stop it already you know nothing is going to be there!" After the short moment where everyone had all eyes on her, the world carried on and continued its business. Feferi was crying, shaking her head and stomping the ground. A few negative words could be picked up from her complaints, aimed at what Aradia assumed was either herself or Sollux.
Aradia stomach began to do an acid-reflex guilt punch on her. She had to leave, it was none of her business to what they talked about. THEY were none of her business. They had nothing to do with her anyone and they'd eventually move on and forget all about Aradia Megido.
She shot out from the bushed in a quick dash, feeling unseen until the sound of hard footsteps behind her began to ring as did a voice with a lisp.
She blew it. Done. Bangarang. It was all over for her. Sollux caught her in the act of escaping and was gonna make her fall to her knees in tears.
Unless you RUN.
She took off with two feet like rockets.
Don't even think of turning around!
Sollux took of after her with almost the same velocity.
Don't you dare do it
He was so close all he had to do was grab hold of her mane and drag her down.
You'll regret it
She never got the chance to regret it.
What was the end picture was a medium sized, regular old girl with a messy of black hair being tackled down to the ground a scrawny, tall geeky boy shouting stop.
