Chapter Text
“So, what happens now?”
Tim’s voice is hesitant and he hates himself for having to ask such a question when they’re sitting in the dark in Kon’s room and the heat of their kiss still arcs between them.
When Tim touches two of his fingers to his mouth, he imagines that he can feel the flesh swelling up from the kiss that Kon had pressed to his mouth a few moments before. He looks up at Kon knowing full well that whatever happens in this room will be something that they never speak of again.
Kon is still with Cassie.
And Tim…
Tim has no idea what he is to Stephanie, but he’s hurt her enough already that he can’t hurt her this way too.
“You’re my best friend, man,” Kon says, reaching for Tim’s face to cup his cheeks with shaking fingers and pull him in close, lips parted and eyes soft. He presses a kiss to the corner of Tim’s mouth and then settles back with a smile. “I don’t want to just…not be with you.”
Tim sighs and leans into the touch of Kon’s warm hands. His eyes fall shut because if he looks up at his best friend, neither one of them will be able to leave the room. “You’ll always be with me, cloneboy,” he gets out through gritted teeth because letting Kon go for a second time isn’t any easier. “Just… not this way.”
He pulls away from Kon and swings his legs over the side of the bed. “I-I’ll go,” he says even though the look in Kon’s eyes was heart-breaking enough before that. “I’ll see you in the morning.”
Tim practically runs from Kon’s room. The next time they see each other things are going to be different and it’s just… It’s going to be so hard to look at Kon with Cassie and see what he could have had.
