Up With the Sun

Work Text:

On her first night out of the room that is supposed to serve as Prince Jason’s harem, Princess Koriand’r is the first to wake up. She sits up when the sun first shines in bright and hot in her face through the window nearby and the faint sound of a cockerel crowing reaches her ears.

Koriand’r stretches and then pulls her blanket up to cover her head as the sunlight hurts her eyes and makes her squint. It’s a surprisingly sunny day in the province of Gotham and Koriand’r considers hiding underneath the covers and forcing herself to return to a peaceful slumber.

The sumptuous sheets of her husband’s bed feel divine against the Tamaranean’s tawny gold skin and the young woman has to ignore the urge to roll around in the soft red blankets until they cover her from head to toe. Instead, the young woman casts her gaze upon her bedmates, on the sleeping forms of her husband Jason and their paramour, Roy as they take up the rest of the massive bed as their bodies press together.

As though he can feel his wife’s gaze on his skin, Jason starts to stir after a few minutes. The young prince cracks open one eye and looks up at his wife without moving his head off of his pillow. “What are you doing up so early, Kori,” Jason asks, voice still fuzzy with sleep. “Did someone knock on the door?”

Koriand’r shakes her head and smiles down at her sleepy husband. “I was up with the sun,” she says, letting the blanket on her head slide down until the heavy curls of her orange hair tumble down her back like a waterfall. Jason sits up and then nudges Roy until the older redhead yawns and starts to roll over onto his stomach.

“You don’t have to get up on my account,” Koriand’r says in a low whisper as she glances first at her husband and then at Roy’s slack face as their lover snores and rubs his cheek against the pillow underneath his head. “Am I correct in assuming that you don’t have any court duties until later? Go back to sleep, Jason, I’ll find a way to entertain myself while you are sleeping.” The princess offers her husband a gentle smile and touches her strong fingers to the side of Jason’s arm where his sleeping clothes have slid down to bare his shoulder.

Jason shakes his head and then laughs softly as a particularly loud snore from Roy echoes in the silence of the bedroom. “I can’t do that to you,” he says when Roy’s snoring has died down. “We are newly wed, Kori. I can’t leave you to entertain yourself. Besides, I don’t think I’ll get much more sleep thanks to Roy.”

Princess Koriand’r smiles again and presses a quick kiss to the corner of her husband’s mouth before she wraps her arms around his broad shoulders and hugs him close.

For all that their courtship and marriage had been an arranged one, Koriand’r has nothing but love in her heart for her husband and the lover that they share eagerly.
