AG: Have you noticed that it’s way too quiet????????
CG: WELL I NOTICED THAT IT’S QUIET, WHAT DO YOU THINK I AM, A DUMBASS?
CG: IT WAS NICE UNTIL YOU SHATTERED IT INTO A MILLION FUCKING PIECES BY ASKING THAT.

CG: DOING WHAT?
AG: Dealing, drinking, whatever. Need I remind you that I don’t 8other with listening to what they do?

You flip your long black hair out of your eyes and press the button on the side of your headset. You scroll through the contacts that Sollux preset the headset to have until you come across who you’re looking for.

AG: Heads up, we think that the Crew is following us.
GA: Well That Makes Sense.
GA: You Are Following The Path That They Set For You
AG: No, I mean, following ALL of us.
AG: As in, you too.
AG: So…….. just watch your 8ack, okay? I don’t need you disappearing on me.
GA: Do Not Worry
GA: I Will Inform Tavros And We Will Not Be Bested
AG: Yeah, okay

You turn to face the other building, noticing that the light from his visor is gone and you furrow your brow, wondering where he went. You hear a step from behind you and you whip out your pistol and turn around in a flash, but lower your gun when you notice the familiar red glow.

“Karkat, what the fuck, you could have told me that you were coming over here.” You slap him lightly on the shoulder and he frowns.

“Shut the fuck up, Vriska,” He growls. “I thought I saw somebody go up the fire escape, and they looked sketchy, but you weren’t fucking answering, so I came over here.”

“Karkat, I can take care of myself.” You start to pack up your rifle and slide your pistol in the holster on your hip. You sling the bag that has your rifle in it over your shoulder and stand up straight. “Well?”

Even though it’s dark, Karkat’s visor lights up his face, so you can see that Karkat rolls his eyes. “Well what, spiderbitch?” You cross your arms, shooting him an unimpressed look.

Well, as in are we going to go now or wha-“ Karkat’s eyes widened, and he cut you off.

“Vriska, behind you!” You didn’t have any time to turn around before somebody grabbed your wrists and mouth and started dragging you away.

You don’t have any words for how terrified you feel right now. Normally, if this were to happen, your brain would have kicked into gear and you would be halfway to taking this guy down by now, but it seemed that he was dragging you towards the edge of the roof and all you seem to be able to do is kick your legs to try to slow him down.

The guy whirls you around and the next thing you know, you're looking down at a street illuminated by shop lights and cars passing. You know you’re not falling, because the edge of the roof is pressed up against your abdomen, but you will be soon, because there’s a hand pressing on your upper back. You’re pushing yourself away from the edge, but you’re not going anywhere.

Suddenly, the hand is gone. There are a few grunts and a thud sound as a combat boot hits a chest, and someone grabs your hand and pulls you up. You’re pulled a safe distance from the edge and you see a big figure dressed in black fall out of view before there’s a loud sound on glass shattering and a scream from the street.

At first, you can only focus on your heavy breathing but as you calm down and your adrenaline stops pumping, you realize that Karkat’s holding you close and you’re very nearly clutching him to your chest as well. Karkat seems to notice this at the same time and you both step apart.

There is a very pregnant pause and neither of you are sure how much time has passed. “Karkat, I… You saved me.”

The other troll cast a glance towards the edge of the roof, right about where you were nearly pushed off. “Captain Obvious called,” He replied, but it didn’t sound like his heart was in the sarcasm. “He wants his trademark back.”

You both stand there awkwardly, looking everywhere but at each other. When you finally venture a look at the other troll, you realize that he looked at you at the same time.

This is the first time that you realize that everything could be gone with a snap of someone’s fingers -- or, in this case, a push of their hands -- so when you and Karkat made eye contact, you took a giant step forwards and pulled him into a kiss.

It wasn’t until after you took a step backwards that you realize that you weren’t the only one to step forwards.

Neither of you say anything, and just grab anything you’ve dropped. You grab your rifle bag and straighten out your shirt. Karkat grabs his rifle and his visor and you both walk slowly towards the fire escape, though you do it cautiously, pulling out your pistols as you go.

Thankfully, you see nobody on the way down, and you both put your obvious weapons away and hail a taxi to the next card.
