Work Text:
Thunder cracked and Stacy hugged her baby tighter.
"Gosh, this storm is awful." Ryan said, walking back into the room with a bottle of warm milk.
"You're right. Oh, thanks." Stacy said taking the bottle from her husband and putting it in the mouth of her crying baby. Ryan strolled across the room and flipped the lamp on. He looked down and saw the photo of their wedding day.
"I'm glad we didn't get married on a day like this…" Ryan said with a bit of sarcasm.
"You're right." Stacy said. "Well, Hollie has stopped crying. What do you say we go back to bed?" Stacy asked, yawning.
"Well, it's practically morning already. So, I'll stay up. But it looks like Hollie has taken a different notion." He said looking at his sleeping baby. Ryan took his wallet out from the dresser drawer in hopes of finding his to do list. He found a folded up flyer. He unfolded the piece and read the text. "HIGH SCHOOL REUNION" it said. "Class of '92" it said below. "Stace, look at this." Ryan said rolling across the bed and sitting up. He turned to his wife and showed her the flyer.
"Oh, Ryan! I completely forgot!" She said. "But there's going to be dancing. You'll have to teach me how." She said reluctantly.
"Fine. I'll teach you right now." Ryan said in a very 'there's no stopping me' tone. Pulling her off the bed and making set Hollie down in her crib along the way, he walked her down the hall.
"I mean, I know how to dance to pop music and things, but, my waltz is a little rusty…" She tried to argue. Ryan only nodded. He walked towards the stereo and turned on a little waltz music. He positioned himself and Stacy and tried to begin.
"You're doing great!" Ryan said reassuringly. "OWWW!" He yelled.
"Oh no!" Stacy said putting her hand over her mouth.
"It's alright." Ryan said gripping his foot and then putting it down and then taking Stacy's hand again.
After several more tried and stumped toes, they finally got it perfect and were ready to dance for hours at the reunion.
Several more days passed and it was finally the night of the reunion. Ryan stood at the bottom of the stairs, beside Gloria, the babysitter for the night.
"Are you sure you'll be alright here, staying alone with the baby?" Ryan asked. "Would you like to go?" He finished.
"I already went to mine." Gloria said. "I want you and Stace to be able to enjoy this night together. Without having to worry about Hollie."
Stacy stepped out from the top of the stairs and began to walk down, in her black dress and pearl necklace, with her pulled into a neat, stylish bun.
"How do I look?" She asked.
"Great!" Gloria replied.
"Wow." Was all Ryan could come up with.
The two walked out of the door and waved to Gloria. They got into the car and drove off.
The couple stepped through the doors and immediately heard loud music playing, and saw past classmates dancing. They saw Kid and his date, Challyn, dancing to the music in their own way.
"Hey Stace, Ryan!" Kids said, never stopping his high energy dancing.
Both Ryan and Stacy waved and grabbed the name tags made for them sitting on the table. Grabbing them, they walked on. Both sat down, and Ryan went to grab two glasses of punch. They sat and sipped, occasionally waving and saying hi to a former classmate or teacher. The next song began to play "And We Danced" by the Hooters began to play through the speakers. Ryan got up and took Stacy's hand, pulling her off her seat as the couple began to dance.
"If I knew they were going to be playing music like this, I wouldn't have bothered with teaching you how to dance." Ryan said with a small chuckle.
"But, it was worth it." Stacy argued, leaning against his shoulder for a moment and then raising her head back to see Ryan's smiling green eyes staring into her own eyes. "I love you, Ryan." Stacy said.
"Same here." Ryan said.
…The band began to play and play and we danced…
The End… For Now At Least
