WHY CAN'T YOU ROMANCE ALISTAIR, OMG. I had to replay the game as a GIRL, just to get him. (I have that same problem in Mass Effect.) This story solves that problem in a very interesting way.
Plot: M!Cousland as the nice guy for a change and some Alistair/F!Tabris/M!Cousland (sexual) tension with Alistair choosing the boy over the girl.
So there are TWO protagonists--one a female elf!pragmatic!protagonist and the other a male human!niceguy!protagonist. This story is LONG because it pretty much follows the entire plot of the game, which is very VERY long, diverging in interesting and believable ways. I've never been comfortable with a lot of Dragon Age fic, because the protagonist has never really been MY protagonist, but this story was so in keeping with the tone of the game that it didn't set off any of my twitchiness.
