Mycroft sends John to bring Sherlock home at the end of a delicate mission for Her Majesty. Never mind that John and Sherlock haven't spoken in eighteen months.
It's possible however, that Sherlock is hurting in ways John hadn't imagined, and that really, someone just needs to explain the purpose of apologies to the Holmes' boys.
All Sherlock wants is to go home. And he can't do that alone.
