    Summary

Jim didn’t look at him. He stayed staring at the ceiling. Len knew that he heard him, knew he was there, his breathing faltered ever so slightly when he called his name. He swallowed heavily as McCoy moved closer, taking a deep breath and saying,

“Bones… when can I get out of here?” Lucid, then. Coherent, alert, aware, but still so damn scared, if the slight shaking in his good hand was any indication. To hell with protocol. Len began removing the ankle restraints.

“Soon, kid, real soon. Soon as that machine finishes its job, we’ll go, ok?” Jim nodded, nostrils flaring with each breath. In. Out. “I uh- I hear you put up a hell of a fight. Mind telling me what that’s all about?” He moved to the strap on Jim’s right wrist.

Jim snorted a breathy, cynical laugh. “I don’t like doctors.”

    Summary

Jim never slept on his back. He never slept on his back, or on his stomach. Never sprawled out and relaxed, and slept for a good long while. He slept curled on his side, knees drawn into his chest and arms coiled protectively near his head.

    Summary

During the course of his first few months serving under Captain Kirk, Spock had noted no less than 212 breeches of code, minor though they were. The most frequent offense was in his blatant disregard for the titles of rank allotted to his crew, rarely using them unless the situation was strictly professional or urgent. Of course, exceptions were to be made while off duty; friendships among the crew were encouraged to maintain a pleasant and trustworthy work environment. It was the lack of titles on the bridge that most perplexed him.

    Summary

Day one Jim’s heart had stopped. Twice. Day two had been better, unless you counted the seizure that hit at about 4AM. Day three had been uneventful. Day four had been the same. And day five. And day six. Day seven they had removed the oxygen mask, replacing it with a cannula as Jim began breathing enough on his own, though they still monitored his O2 levels carefully. Day eight they had amped up the fluids as his body began replicating cells on it’s own again. Day nine… day ten… it had been thirteen days. God, when was the last time he’d slept?

    Summary

His throat had swelled shut and there had been a few moments of oh god can’t breathe, can’t breathe and the resulting panicked flashbacks to the warp core and oh god, he hadn’t been in the best mood. And when Bones followed him back to the bridge to hover over him and scan him with a tricorder every four minutes to “monitor his oxygen levels”, he started to get angry.

None of this, of course, was any excuse for deciding to bark at Bones on the bridge in front of everyone, “For god’s sake Bones, it’s not like I died!”
