Summary
They depart, far away from the spaceship where the 汉字 are painted all backwards and wrong.
The story of Dr Tan Jiaming and his sister Hena, and how they left Serenity.

Notes
They are discussing, in feverish tones, whether to accept the captain's offer and remain with Serenity, or whether to keep running alone, just the two of them, brother and sister, the last of their house and lost to their ancestral gods.
“我不信任。” Tan Hena says insistently. ‘We cannot trust him.’
‘He was a Browncoat,’ Simon reminds her. ‘He will not betray us to the Alliance.’
“他可能不会出卖我。” she replies, eyes flashing, 'but I do not wish to sell my dignity by living on his ship.'
‘Dignity!’ Simon explodes at this. ‘What dignity is there? I know what you mean, River; and I don’t want to be like 爸 and 妈, 我也不想盲目崇洋, but this is not about selling dignity like our parents, 小妹。 This is about surviving, and I’ll eat my dignity if I can survive.’
‘I won’t.’
Joss Whedon needs to read this, because it exposes his (in the author's words) chinoiserie and flays it down to the bone. God, I love postcolonial lit.

Maybe taking Duke as her only backup wasn't such a good idea. (Audrey&Duke friendship fic with Audrey/Nathan undertones.)

"I'm bored."
Audrey clenches and relaxes her fist. "And what would you like me to do about that?"
She can hear the leer in his voice. "Well, if you're open to suggestions...."
She grins, knowing he's not serious. "In your dreams, Crocker."
He sighs, sounding wistful. "Frequently," he agrees, and she snorts in amusement and elbows him in his side.
Audrey and Duke's friendship is hilarious, and I love how Duke is so much smarter than either she or Nathan, and yet he is utterly, helplessly, charmed by them.

There is a reason I did not keep Sherlock 1.02 on my hard drive, and that reason is that it is racist as fuck. This story is an antidote to some of the poison that episode carried within it.
There is the blog. "Sherlock, do you remember the surname of that girl, the chinese girl from the museum?"Sherlock lifts his head for a moment from the microscope on the kitchen table. John's taken to working at the table too. There's most of a dead dog spread out on a tarp (he's taken to stocking up on them in the cupboard under the stairs) and at least in here, it's warm and he can make tea. Sherlock insists that the heater has to be off for an experiment, but John's fairly sure it's because he's too stubborn to admit he doesn't know how to fix a boiler while Mrs Hudson's away.
"Soo Lin."
"That was her first name," John says patiently. "Her full name."
Sherlock shrugs and goes back to his bloodslides. John thinks about texting Lestrade or something, and then sighs and begins typing.
"Her name was Soo Lin and she had long black hair and a soft gentle voice," he writes.

Summary
She'd never expected to find herself a government employee. But these days Kelly had a boss who'd never once tried to hit on her, an expense account of apparently exospheric height, and a job that was almost as fun as outright crime.

"Miss Jones. You've had six jobs since graduation, of which you were fired from two, and the other four of which you quit in order to deny them the satisfaction. Your background check in no way reflects your true criminal history, which goes some way to explaining how you and Annabelle Fritton managed to pay off the mortgage on your flat within a year. No, don't bother sitting down, I don't intend on asking you any questions. That's far too dull, don't you think?"
Kelly curled her hand around the top of the chair, mostly to stop herself from saying anything. None of that was on her resumé.
"You come highly recommended by a mutual friend," he went on. "All that I require is a small aptitude test."
"What sort of test?"
"Find out what the wife of the Speaker of the House had for breakfast this morning."
Kelly blinked. "So when you say data acquisition..."
I know fuck-all about St. Trinian's, but I absolutely believe that (a) it exists and (b) Mycroft's assistants all come from it. -

She's still got the sword.
It's not that she was nostalgic or anything. Not that she saved it on purpose. She didn't even remember it was there, stored away in the attic, buried among the toy guns and pretty dolls her mother really wanted her to play with. Just two twigs, tied together with a length of twine.
The minute she saw it, the minute she touched it, she knew.
YES. YES YES YES, Pepper would absolutely grow up to be Pepper Potts, and to be this calm and focused and knowing.
