    Summary

The thing about Bucky these days is that, while he might be a semi-mythical assassin, he's also vulnerable—the kind of vulnerable that makes total strangers want to drape a blanket over his shoulders and take him to safety. The problem is, of course, that Bucky is already safe.

The first time it happens, Bucky has no idea how to react. He and Steve are walking down the street, when a slight woman takes in Bucky’s terrified eyes, the dark circles so bad they almost look like bruises, and Steve’s protective hand resting on his lower back, guiding him down the busy sidewalk (but it must look possessive, to someone looking for a sign), and comes to the wrong conclusion.

    Bookmarker's Notes

“You, um,” Steve chooses his words with a great deal of consideration. Leaving the house is already enough of a challenge, and he doesn’t want to give Bucky a complex. “People who pay attention can tell, just by seeing you, that you’ve been through a lot. You’re...wounded from everything they did to you. It’s harder to see those kinds of wounds, but some people do.”

    Bucky looks troubled.

“There’s nothing wrong with you, Buck. It’s normal, after what you went through. You’re amazing, and doing so well, and I’m so proud of you, and—”

Bucky shakes his head. That isn’t it. Steve waits. Sometimes, it takes a little time for Bucky to express himself. “She doesn’t know me,” Bucky says, after a while. “Why—why does she care if someone hurts me?”

Prompt: I'd love a fic where Bucky was used sexually as stress relief for all of Hydra's soldiers. Naturally, this fucked him up pretty bad. When Steve brings him in, he expects to serve the same function with the Avengers and their allies. He doesn't try to seduce them, he's just constantly expecting to be told to get on his knees. He doesn't understand what the payment for the food and bed etc will be, and he's confused his new owners are so different.

Important: none of the good guys would even consider using him with any consent issues.

Steve gave him two sandwiches and a tall glass of juice, sitting down next to him with his own plate of the same. He waited, for Steve to take the food away or to give him permission or to push him down, but Steve merely picked up his own sandwich and raised his eyebrows after taking a big bite.

“Needs more mustard,” Steve mused. “Aren’t you going to eat?”

He started eating because that was an indirect order. Steve smiled at him.

    Everything’s confusing.

She did a run down of the contestants by state, to check they were present, pausing at New York. She looked around. "Has anyone seen New York?"

"I'm here," Bucky declared from the doorway. "Don't need to send out a search party."

Steve looked over and found himself staring.

For the first time since they'd met, Bucky was looking the part in a charcoal grey suit that was cut perfectly to his figure and a black shirt open at the collar. His hair was slicked back and his face cleanshaven, and he looked good

It was, Steve decided, an inconvenient time to notice how attractive another man was.

People call Steve adorable, a breath of fresh air amidst the usual double-speak of politics and the blond quickly learns not to Google his own name. His teammates may be starting to see the man behind the mask, but the country is still caught up in Captain America’s fantasy and few things are more divisive then mentioning his name. Because Steve is either a beacon of justice or a corrupted hero depending on whom you ask and the only thing that everyone can agree on is that his endorsement would help their cause.
