People now, when they tell their stories, say that I was Fitz’s Fool. Do not forget that first and foremost I was Shrewd’s Fool, long before FitzChivalry was anything more than a child stumbling along the path prophecy had laid out for him.

Summary
It was perhaps the most difficult thing Grakker had ever done to approach Snout for help. Grakker was almost the top of his class – he didn’t ask for help from anyone, especially not a sissypants like Snout. If Grakker was going to ask someone for help, it should be someone like BKR – someone with a straightforwardly aggressive way of dealing problems. It certainly shouldn’t be someone as soft as Snout who tried to solve problems by thinking at them.

Summary
Helen had been brought up to be a Nice Girl.
“Always smile,” her mother would advise briskly. “For goodness sake, girl, if you can’t be pretty you can at least look cheerful!” Now, don’t show me up and remember to be friendly. If you want people to like you, Helen, and god knows they have little enough reason to, you must always find something to compliment them about no matter how small. Never go anywhere without a gift, and it must be a good one – people will remember you when they think of the gift, and you’re hardly going to stick in their heads without some help, are you? Always be helpful. Never say no if you can say yes. What did I tell you about smiling?!”

“If the gods are real, they could have caught her!” The words were spat out with venom, and even the Minister of War flinched at their implication. “If it’s not just a story, if Eugenides is real and if thieves only fall if he lets them… he made that choice. Why did he make that choice? What did she ever do to deserve that?”

Life in the Dearlys’ household ran on smoothly oiled rails indeed thanks to the residence of two ruthlessly efficient women who had known the Dearlys since the pair were smaller than… well, smaller than puppies in fact! Little wonder that such long acquaintances could lead to the two Nannies being able to deal swiftly with requests – even before they were made sometimes!

Summary
A totem was something that Sitka had always imagined could be used like a badge, a stamp of proof. It surely had to mean something if the spirits said it was true. Your elders had to take what you said seriously, surely, if you could hold out the totem of wisdom; no-one could argue your attractiveness if you held the totem of beauty and if you held the totem of strength.. well, almost anything was achievable then.

Summary
And, of course, when it came to searching the dimly lit crooks and crannies of Hogwarts to ensure Black was not lurking after his daring raid into Gryffindor tower - probably Potter, the idiot, let him in because of one of his inexplicably suicidal impulses - Dumbledore had to pair him with the childhood friend of the same escaped prisoner.
