Steve takes things like personal responsibility and respect seriously. Tony's got people he pays to take care of that kind of thing, and anyway, he's pretty sure that he's going to die of some exotic disease in his workshop, because Dummy's still a little spotty about what is 'clean' enough to put on an open wound. The rest of the Avengers are in this for personal gain, except for Clint, he just enjoys being a dick.
And some things shouldn't be a chore.

This isn't meant to be the real Europe in the real 16th century, either, but someplace more akin to the fantastical version of it that we see reflected in the wavery mirror of Shakespeare's inventions. (Among the many other distinctions, both Denmark and Norway at that time were ruled by members of the House of Oldenburg, instead of the fictitious dynasties that Shakespeare wrote about and that I have unabashedly stolen.) Sam has always had his brother, when he wanted him and when he didn't. But that was before he was the lucky recipient of a gift from faerie that Dean can't remember and John can't forget. It leaves Sam to find his own way to navigate between the 'real' world and the Winchester world and deal with guilt he can't shake, no matter how hard he tries. And trying? Is going to involve plenty of sex, rebellion (and maybe some of Dean's rock and roll. But not much).

Lovely long story with wonderful use of the amulet to fix everything. AU from mid S6: The events of "Caged Heat" never happened; Crowley didn't die and so Dean didn't contact Death as an alternative. Sam did ask Balthazar about a way to keep a soul out and attempt to go through with killing Bobby, but Dean got to him at the last second as he did in canon. This takes place shortly after that.
