There’s no strategic value in the tiny human who’s finally let go of his neck and is falling asleep in his lap, except that he won’t grow up to be a Stormtrooper. Finn knows better than anybody that one Stormtrooper more or less doesn’t make any difference to anything.

I'm not crying your mom's crying.

Also, the poem that the title is pulled from is gorgeous.

    Bookmarker's Notes

Looking out over the marsh, away from the creature lying dead, he said wearily, "There is no longer anything young in the world."

This works so well for me. It's such a good Sherlock Holmes line, except that it's not because he would never say that in the original stories because there was plenty that was young in the world, and no eldritch horrors, and he wasn't much given to expressing poetic melancholy. But if there had been eldritch horrors, he would've been! I think. He liked to get philosophical sometimes. I say this like we were old friends. Well, fiction'll do that to you I guess. Anyway this line really works for me.

I saw shades of Jeeves & Wooster in the fixation on the exact placement of neckties, but I imagine that's because it's been a minute since I've read any ACD Holmes. I do remember he was a smart dresser, and very particular about details. Watson loved remarking on how he was in many ways a Hot Mess who didn't know normal things like "the earth revolves around the sun" but did know extremely precise things about tobacco ash. This also applied to his manner of dress but I can't remember how – something about pristine shirtcuffs? And that ragged old slipper on the hearth?

This story is beautiful and perfect and clicks just right with both (/all three? does Neil Gaiman's make a proper third?) universes it draws from. I LOVE IT & I WISH THERE WERE FIVE HUNDRED MORE JUST LIKE IT

'cause we make a great team

Boredom's a real killer when you've topped your resume by taking down an international criminal organization. Wade's been in the market for a new pet project, and who should happen to come along but our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man? Peter's understandably a little shy of our charming Merc with the Mouth, but luckily for him, he happens to know a certain damsel not-so-much-in-distress that's willing to serve as an excellent character witness. From there it's just a short hop, skip, and one huge leap for spiderkind into a whole new world of trouble for our web-slinging hero. Good thing he's starting to learn to like trouble.

Featuring: stalking (for justice and otherwise), showtunes, a series of increasingly improbable dinner dates, the Apartment of Doom, a judicious amount of mad science, homoerotic fight sequences, highly sexual tai-chi, musical montages, and a truly sickening amount of domestic bliss.

    This! Is! Cute! And! Entertaining!

There's really competent switch-ups between third person limited POVs! A thing that is difficult to do! And they're each distinct and engaging and endearing! I love them!

There's body image stuff in here that feels real! Like! It's relatable! In a way that I feel like the movie tried to be? But did not succeed particularly? Idk, ymmv, gnarled-up Ryan Reynolds whining about how disgusting he was and how beauty is everything etc etc didn't work for *me* & in fact I was sort of surly about it for days after seeing the movie.

Also, this Vanessa? Is my faaaavorite. She's so good.
