    Summary

Ochako looks so beautiful when she's talking about her family. Tsuyu feels like floating away, the weight of the secret she's been keeping rising to the surface and taking her with it.

This is it. I have to say it to her now, Tsuyu thinks.

“Your hair looks nice today,” she tells Ochako.

Well, that didn't sound remotely similar to “I am deeply in love with you,” but it's the closest she's come to saying it so far.

Or, Asui Tsuyu has never had any trouble speaking her mind - except for the one time it really matters.

    Summary

When her Quirk develops, she’s four years old, and she’s lying on the carpet, laughing, playing with the family cat. She rolls over, and the cat rolls over too, and then there’s a hissing noise, and a chunk of the floor dissolves under a grayish liquid that’s coming out of Mina’s fingertips.

    She screams.

Mina’s mother comes running in, face white, and shouts when she sees the floor. Her father is gone, away at work, but she knows that he’ll be happy. She has a Quirk!

There was never really any doubt, though, she tells herself as her mother tries to clean up the strange liquid and ends up burning through three paper towels, a napkin, and a cloth dishtowel before concluding that it’s acid.

Mina spends the entire summer celebrating, running out and playing at the park, testing her acid, and melting objects.

It’s only a few days later that she notices that her skin is pink.

This is the story of the First Alternian Empire, and the people who felled it.

This is the story of the trial of Vriska Serket, and the legislacerator who won it.

    Summary

New Town seemed to glitter with a hitherto unseen shimmer now that she had experienced first-hand the ills of Old Town. The luxurious parlors, the elegant dresses, feasts of the highest quality meats and desserts, motorcars and illuminated avenues, all of it seemed to be an existence made of gold and ivory, pearl and gemstone, a world fashioned from the finest cuts of reality decorated and arranged as perfectly as a dream. Jane’s life had been nothing but this splendor for years and years, and she had truly noticed none of it. She breathed it, bathed in it, until only the minor failures of paradise, the occasional fracture in its gilded surface, caught her attention. She was blinded to the brilliance of her own life. Now, the fractures she had looked on with such a critical eye seemed nothing compared to the fissure exposing the rot beneath.
