Part of the joy of Lawrence of Arabia is that directorial intent makes the slash very nearly canon - leading this Gen tale to speak meaningfully of possibilities rejected. Only in this fandom. (Curiously, it has a balancing effect on the slash, too... it tends to tread lightly.)
