Summary
Post beach-divorce fix-it, presented as a sequel to Inevitable Things. Everyone was hurt in the events leading to the break-up on the beach, but Charles Xavier has always pushed forward, no matter the odds or personal cost. Now he's setting up his school and doing all he can to guide and protect the young mutants under his care, while privately struggling to come to terms with his injury and the loss of his lover and best friend. Alone in a world that has proven more hostile than he imagined, how can he keep his sense of hope?

Summary
Erik Lehnsherr has been on the trail of Herr Doktor Klaus Schmidt his entire adult life. He thinks he has finally found a lead in the person of one Doctor Charles Xavier: man of business and science, airship mogul, and expert on the adaptives who have started to proliferate in the last few dozen years. What he never expected was to find Dr. Xavier is also a philanthropist and a mutant. Together they must confront Erik's past and also face whatever emotional entanglement has started to form between him and the good Doctor.

Charles and Erik (and Raven and Hank) in Victorian London, with a little steampunk and a lot of period-appropriate scientific thought. There's dancing and clothing and chases in secret underground cities and danger by the docks and scheming madmen and it's the loveliest thing I've read in ages.

Charles is nothing like what he expected, and Erik finds himself slowly falling in love with his sugar daddy while trying to find out exactly what caused this amazing guy to buy his emotional and sexual intimacy when he clearly deserves so much more than that.
