    Bookmarker's Notes

Brief, clever and poignant, this story gives us a glimpse of a universe where one of the saddest deaths in The Hobbit films still happens, but is not The End, as Tauriel continues to explore, right through to the Afterlife. Told in a fable-like style that really works.

"As a wood elf she was not high or wise, but she had ears. She was not a great lady, snowy white and pure, seated beside her husband in the lands beyond the sea. Even so, she had the power to listen. In the dark, among the stone of the Lonely Mountain, she listened. Eventually, after time untold in utter silence, she heard the song that called to her heart. And she followed it deeper into the dark."

A deeply satisfying fix-it that shows how a really satisfying AU may exist in a short-fic: just a short, lovely glimpse of a happier path.

    Summary

When the Oath brings disaster to Sirion, Maglor attempts to fix what he can, but a temporary arrangement becomes much more permanent than anyone had foreseen. Elrond and Elros grow up, grow together, and grow apart at the end of a world slowly decaying into myth and legend.

    Bookmarker's Notes

The strange, tragedy-tinged guardianship of Maedhros and Maglos for Elrond and Elros has many tellings: this one is unique for vivid day to day detail. An increasingly rough life amid an ever-smaller remnant of the last Feanorian community; a deeply-disturbed Maedhros; a well-meaning but overwhelmed Maglor; well-painted background figures: and a poignant focus on the children's point of view.

I like the way the half-elven boys *are* children--not the idealized fic version--but young beings with confused viewpoints, messy physical selves, and a mix of obliviousness and sensitivity.

    Summary

Thorin encounters a particularly deadly flower while the Company travels through Mirkwood: one that releases a form of aphrodisiac pollen that may take days to burn out of his system, if it doesn't kill him first. To survive, he's going to need a partner.

Fortunately, he and Mistress Baggins have grown quite close.

Unfortunately, Thorin has decided not to pursue Bilbo any further until he can court her properly once the Mountain is reclaimed.

It would help if he had informed Bilbo of any of this, especially when an Elvish flower is doing its level best to kill him.

And that was how Mad Sweeney and Salim found themselves in a place neither of them had ever imagined being: the cosmetics aisle of a Walgreens at 11 PM.
