It's canon! No, it's an AU! It's – it's a canoe! Oh, hell, just read it!

Oh the non-AU AU that is perfect and awesome and one of the first things I ever read in SGA fandom and so also super nostalgic. I love this story.

Throughout the course of his hunting career, Sam Winchester finds himself unwittingly mentoring the next generation of hunters. He's not sure who thought it would be a good idea to make him a role model and authority figure for anyone, but his kids don't particularly care.

Most of them are convinced he hung the stars in the sky, anyway.

    Bookmarker's Notes

This series heals so much in me. The first 17 chapters are the original AU, and really showcase Sam as the compassionate badass he is, and don't allow much room for Dean at all - which is honestly my favorite part. The kids sticking up for Sam, *especially* against Dean, is excellent. I absolutely adore the double AU where Sam is King of Hell, and the whole series is just... exactly what I need when I get sick of the late seasons bullshit where Sam and Dean are concerned.

If Cas had had more than one or two days with Jack, before it all went to hell, he might have started teaching him the finer points of being a young angel - namely, how to manifest and care for his wings. Dean and Sam might have taught him how to be a human kid - how to play and wrestle like a human.
In turn, Jack might have noticed some things...and bluntly pointed them out to a wholly unprepared Cas and Dean.
    These things might have happened.
I really kinda needed these things to happen.

Beautifully crafted wingfic lore, wonderfully angsty relationship stuff. Jack with giant white wings! Ahhhhhhh so good. :D

The language in this is very rich, but honestly, it's the depth of feeling that gets me. Limited Sam POV, and his pain is just so visceral. Beautifully rendered.

They're still reeling from Dean's stint in Purgatory, the Trials are tearing them apart, the world hangs in the balance (again)—and Dean wants to get a pool table and have a sex marathon. Of course he does.

    Bookmarker's Notes

The word for this fic is relentless. The boys are relentless, the plot is relentless, the boys' doubts are relentless. It's an amazing read, and a chunk of canon that was left out of the show and fits right into late season 8. It's like a cut bit of film; the story itself is a solid block of atmosphere, and it simply ends, it doesn't resolve, so note to self: it will take you a few hours to reorient yourself after this. Be sure you have time. You don't want to read this in a hurry.

But if you do have time, it is the most perfect Sam POV, and it doesn't forgive Dean his sins, either. Gorgeous. Perfect characterization, dialogue, and atmosphere. Beautiful.
