It started slowly, which is why it took so long for anyone to catch on to the changed relationship. At the same time, it started very quickly, which is why no one could quite pin down when it was that Tony Stark and Clint Barton - strangers until that first battle together - had looked at each other and connected.

"He does, I suppose," Tony said, just as evenly as Steve. Steve felt that flash of anger - how could his friend's son just not care that his father was proud of him?! - until Tony continued, "It's fake, though."

Oddly enough, it turns out to be a lot easier for Tony to share with his AI than it is for him to talk to his girlfriend. Maybe the AI just speaks his language.
