Summary
Curiosity worried whenever Opportunity talked about things like "drifting sand" because hello, elephant in the room, Spirit, buried at Troy with jarosite covering her solar panels. And she wanted Opportunity to talk about Spirit -- it was weird having a sister you had never known, and she wanted to hear everything about her -- but Opportunity was weird. Mentioning Spirit would make her stop talking for days at a time, or sing, randomly, down the radio link, strange little songs Curiosity had never heard before. Strange little songs that didn't sound like they were written by humans at all.

Summary
You'd like to think the magnetic highway is the open road: a '67 Camaro with the top down, Quadrophenia blasting from the speakers, wind in your hair, a gorgeous girl in the passenger seat. But there's no Camaro out here seventeen light-hours from the nearest Exxon station. There's some fucking exciting magnetic particles, no lie, flavored like supernova. But the solar wind's died down and you can't hear Pete Townshend's voice in hard vacuum.

"No!" The General stood, and she was every inch the Butcher Brakespeare and in no part his Tiny Doom. "You've seen the mess Hardhands left behind. At this rate we'll be an Aztalan client by mid-summer, and that's assuming they don't just raze us to the ground and salt the remains. Pigface Psychopomp, boys, they'll sell our brats into hard labor in Ticonderoga, set up a sacrificial pit in the Embarcadero, spit corpses on the spire of Saeta House."

Charon comes to a cozy 19,000 kilometers away and holds Pluto as close as zie can. "I love you, dearheart," zie says, and Pluto wishes it were as easy for zie to say it back. "Everyone looks so small compared to you. I'll always orbit around you."

Summary
This is my 2003 NaNoWriMo Novel, a bildungsroman about Silthri, a woman who comes to live in the early city that would become Catal Huyuk several thousand years later.

Bookmarker's Notes
Lovely original novella. Starts off joyful, twinges suddenly toward tragedy, and develops satisfyingly into a complex richness. A love story to lives well lived -- and to the interdependencies of urban living.

Summary
Tying up loose ends is part of Hendricks' job. Sometimes that's not even a euphemism for murder. But this is going to take a personal touch, and Hendricks might get a little tied up in it.

Bookmarker's Notes
We see basically nothing in canon of the damage Dresden leaves behind, except inasmuch as it's "Oh, we all love Harry, and we mourn him so!" This is a great look at the people around him who have to deal with the shrapnel, whether its convenient or not.
And man does it make me want POV Maggie fic. And not "my two gay dads, as seen by Maggie," but middle grade / YA style POV respected main child character, ripped from her home, country, language, and safely mundane life.

In which the Swinetrek falls through a Rift in Space and Time, Jack Harkness falls in love, and Miss Piggy finally gets some respect.

Bookmarker's Notes
It should not be possible to make this not be crack, but somehow this is a serious story which is magically true both the spirit of Torchwood and the spirit of Pigs in Space. How does that even work? That's like having a delicious mustard and cabbage pudding with whipped cream. And yet at the same time, It also offers thoughtful critique of character flaws in both Miss Piggy and Jack Harkness. Genius.

Summary
I had been on a walk with Flavian, when Bernard and I were both new. We had run into a salamander, and it had ended with me needing sixteen stitches and Bernard unable to sit down for a week. Christopher did warn me—"I shouldn't go if I were you, Hester; hiking is not one of the mandatory subjects"—but I'd trusted my previous experiences with teachers more than I'd trusted Christopher; and besides, my name isn't Hester.
Christopher and the young enchanters go to the circus. Conrad and Flavian go for a walk in the forest. Things go very wrong.

Bookmarker's Notes
Long, plotty, in the spirit of the original, developing characters who are only mentioned as set dressing in the source. Wonderful.
I can't speak to the authenticness and respectfulness of the way the non--English magic and culture are used, but they seem respectful to me as an outsider.
