    Summary

Thranduil did not sail to the Undying Lands with the majority of his elvish kin. He stayed behind because the idea of moving on was unfathomable. The world around him changed. Eventually he learned to evolve with it, with the help of (and in spite of, at times) a series of well-timed surprises.

Almost every "lifetime," someone eerily similar to Bard would cross his path. They wouldn't have his memories, but they had his manner and general appearance.

The elf believed they were Bard's reincarnations. Losing him at the end of every lifetime was difficult, but Thranduil persevered because he knew they'd be reunited again. It was a cycle of love and loss, over and over; he didn't know whether he should curse the powers that be or thank them.

Owen Shaw is a shock to his routine. Thranduil soon finds himself caught up in a dangerous world. When Owen begins to dream (remember) things from past lives, all the while getting dragged into his older brother's business, Thranduil finds he isn't sure of much but the need to keep Owen safe at all costs.

    Summary

"Undines are creatures of the fresh water,” she said, in the end. “Guardians of springs, and streams, and all that they feed in turn. They are fair, and strong, immortal and invulnerable to all which might hurt us, but they are born longing for just one thing, one thing that they may never find alone – which is a shame, for they are destined to be alone, unless they can find someone who can love them despite their strangeness."

In which Bard finds a creature in the forest in the dead of winter, and both of them learn to let go of their fears.
