    Summary

In the age of lantern and oil, paper and ink, the people lived in fear of many horrors indescribable to mortal men: creatures that dwelt in the darkest of shadows, unseen and unheard, but lingering in the form of violently torn corpses; the mysteries of the spatial realm beyond human reach, those that were never meant for simple mortals to behold; and monstrous beasts, once plentiful, now scarce, said to be chosen by the graces of the full moon and her star children to carry out her will at her every beck and call.

Hunters of these beasts deemed them the Afflicted. Many of these beasts, shameful of their lineage, agreed with the name, but there were those who scoffed at it, and chose to reinvent themselves with a new title: the Chosen. For the full moon did choose them, did bless them with inhuman gifts, and no hunter in the world would ever change that.

    Ever.
