Summary
Merlin Emrys knows that the closest he’ll ever get to King Arthur is reading about him in the legends. He knows that it’s his destiny to live a quiet life in Camelot, and perhaps – if he’s lucky – find a beautiful, golden-haired man to settle down with. He expects his life to go pretty much according to plan.
What he doesn’t expect is for magic to pick him up and drop him into the middle of medieval Camelot during the reign of King Uther Pendragon, with no idea where he is or how to get home. He doesn’t expect to meet Arthur, because that sort of thing just doesn’t happen to ordinary people like him.
Merlin Emrys doesn’t know that his life was never destined to be ordinary.

Summary
Some quests are about much more than finding medicinal plants, mythical treasure, or large quantities of meat. Arthur is slow on the uptake, but he will get there, eventually. Canon-era AU firmly grounded in, and set after, the halcyon days of Series 1.
