    Summary

A few letters sent between Fingon & Maedhros immediately after Maedhros went East with his brothers to Himring.

It is not entirely clear what the relationship was between Maedhros and Fingon during this period. There appear to be a number of things in these documents that are understood, but not spelled out.

    Summary

Maglor meets Nimloth of Doriath, and is surprised. Elrond and Bilbo go to Valimar, and meet Ingwion, leader of the Vanyar Host from the War of Wrath, Indis and Melian. Elrond gets rather cross and channels his inner Maiar. Bilbo is sensible. And Eönwë, Herald of the Valar, brings news.

“He gives you a good death, I’ll give him that, your brother Celegorm,” Nimloth said, to Maglor’s considerable surprise. “I’m afraid the people that I killed didn’t get such an expert send-off. But then, I had less practice in that line of work. His was painless, a very tidy job. I hope your standards are as high.”

(Sorry for delay on Chapter 3 to those who read it before I got that done. I thought it was going to be about 20 mins! )

    Summary

In which Maglor, returned to Tol Eressëa with Elrond and Frodo, meets two heroes of Gondolin, recalls Elrond's thoughts on the Downfall of Númenor, injures Fingon and loses a horse-race (barely).

"It really is very odd, for hobbits, to be living surrounded by all these great heroes who died so long ago, and have returned from death. I still haven’t quite got used to it.”

“I find it odd, too,” Maglor said. “Or at least, it seems odd to see Egalmoth. The last time I saw him was at the Havens of Sirion, where I killed him.”

    Summary

Nerdanel and Lalwen in Tol Eressëa at the start of the Fourth Age, discussing kinslaying, family, art and history, are joined by Galadriel who has recently returned from Middle-earth after the Ban of the Valar that prevented her from returning was finally lifted. They eat cake and discuss Gil-galad's parentage. Later, Nerdanel makes a decision.

“I am sure this is the reason that they called her Nerdanel the Wise,” Galadriel said to Lalwen. “It took me ages of the world to realise that being a queen would be a fearful nuisance.”

    Summary

Maglor, returned to Aman with Elrond, makes new songs, gets drunk with Fingon and his aunt Lalwen, and runs into trouble with the Oath of Fëanor.

“See? I told you he was good at kinging,” Maglor declared, from the ground. “Of all the many Noldor Kings, you are my favourite, Fingon. Don’t tell anyone!”

Fingon shook his head in mock despair. “I too am drunk, but obviously the House of Fëanor has to do it better.”

In terms of timing, this story follows on directly from Mereth Aderthad : Once More: With Feeling. I hope it makes sense without it though.

    Summary

Contains root vegetables, Elven politics, the powers of the princes of the Noldor, consideration of the Gimli Question, contrasting leadership styles among Elves, party planning, and background hobbits. Also, Maglor's thoughts on the whole 'when did Amrod die' issue.

“They say Fëanor burned his own son alive, and did not even weep,” someone said after a while, quite distinctly, from further down the table. It sounded as if he had meant to be heard, though the voice was a little slurred, and probably somewhat drunk.

“Well, of course he did. He was quite mad,” someone Maglor could not see said, chuckling offensively.

    Summary

In which Maglor and Elrond meet Maglor's mother Nerdanel, Finrod makes a miscalculation, Maglor is princely, and Elrond is amused. And Finarfin is reluctantly kingly, even when surprised in his gardening clothes.

‘Fëanor!’ someone shouted, and again, ‘Fëanor!’ and the whole crowd took up the call. Louder and louder, again and again, the old warcry of East Beleriand baying out across the city, a deep sound building like waves on the shore, but with a good deal more menace to it.

Maglor gave Finrod a pained look. “I thought you said that a quiet visit would cause no trouble!” he said.

    Summary

Elrond, newly arrived in the West, and Celebrían discuss family, Rivendell, getting settled in Tol Eressëa, missing Middle-earth, the House of Fëanor as pastries, and the Breaking of the World. Includes brief depiction of Celebrían’s torment in the dens of the orcs, and a fencing lesson with Maglor. Probably in this particular version of Arda, it was Celebrían who invented Lembas.

“It never can be quite over, can it?” she said to Elrond. “Not for us. Arwen will go on, but Arda is marred and here we are, bound to it. In all its beauty and its terror and darkness.”

“I hoped you wouldn’t have to think of the terror again. I’m sorry. I should not have mentioned any of this.”

“No!” she said. “You should. You should! The beauty is all the brighter for it. The pastries taste better too. You can’t have stars at the same time as sunlight.”

    Summary

Questionable attempt at depicting m/m elf marriage and sex from a Laws and Customs Among the Eldar and Ósanwe-kenta perspective.

“You surely aren’t going to insist on silver and gold rings and a year’s waiting to be sure?” Fingon asked, amused.

“At our age? And then to ask Manwë and Varda as witnesses and call on the name of the One?” Maedhros rolled his eyes. “I think I’d rather not, under the circumstances.”

    Summary

Elrond, having arrived in Valinor at the end of the Third Age, goes to meet his mother, Elwing. Taking Maglor with him.

“Hmph. I suppose we can’t have him being beaten bloody on my doorstep.” Elwing said, unenthusiastically “Or killing someone.” Apparently Maglor was considered a random killer, like a biting dog. “Come in then, if you must.”

    Summary

Fëanor comes to the Halls of Mandos, meets Námo (Mandos), his father, his mother (it doesn't go too well), and eventually, Fingolfin.

Fëanor's point of view. Darker than the other works in this series. Neither Námo nor Fëanor is happy about how things have turned out, neither are in a mood for compromise. This is backstory to 'Of the Coming of Fingolfin to Mandos and his meeting with Fëanor' and 'Nerdanel and Fëanor : Messages ' filling in some of the details that Fëanor is too proud to mention in those stories.

Fëanor ends up pretty miserable. This is gen, and there is no deliberate cruelty in it, but it is not a cheerful read.

    Summary

How *do* dead elves get to the Halls of Mandos anyway? And once they get there, what do they say to one another?

Fingolfin could feel his temper rising, predictable, and yet he could not stop it. His years of kingship vanished in the mist. He was the younger, less talented, less cherished brother again, but one with a list of grievances that had grown very long.

“What more did you want of me?” he said. “I gave my word. He is my father too, and he was king of all of us!"

    Summary

"All his life, he would remember that moment: the silver bells of Hithlum greeting the rising sun, and then, as if in answer to the bells, voices raised in song, the voices of the Eldar, impossibly clear, impossibly beautiful. "

In which Hador Lórindol comes to Hithlum, swears fealty to Fingolfin, and follows his lord to the end. And doesn't regret a thing. (Well, maybe that one embarrassing misunderstanding about the Feanorians....)

“Your safety is assured,” the Maia said. “They will not be allowed to do you any harm.”

Of course, that made it impossible to refuse. Fingon gave the Maia his best incredulous expression. “I have fought dragons and Balrogs. I think I can handle a cousin and an uncle. Lead the way.”

    Summary

Originally painted for Lynndyre's original art prompt: a gnarled twisted tree, perhaps growing from a ruin, with something living in it. But when I started painting, I realised that it was in my mind Hollin, the ruins of Eregion, and that Lynndyre hadn't actually requested Tolkien art. So here it is as a treat, just on the offchance, because I enjoyed Lynndyre's story, Flight from Eregion, though clearly this image is too late to be quite part of it.
