"Jack didn't drag me anywhere I didn't want to go. I'm happy to assist with the case, and we've already proven that we can cohabitate without undue distress."

"Yeah, well, I still think it's stupid," Will muttered.

"We do fit the profile," Hannibal said. "A couple from different social strata; recently cohabiting; homosexual. That's not what offends you, is it?" Hannibal added.

(Or: Hannibal and Will have to pretend to be a couple for a case. Everything goes downhill from there.)

Will took a shaking breath around the dull ache in his chest. He opened his mouth, but it took a few seconds to get the words out. "Just – hold me. Hold onto me. Don’t let go. Don’t leave. That’s all."

Hannibal pulled him closer, wrapped him up tight in his arms, and kissed his hair. They breathed quietly into each other’s space, erections pressed into each other’s bodies and ignored until they began to fade. Hannibal stroked Will’s back slowly, up and down. Will grabbed handfuls of Hannibal’s shirt, pressed his face into the warm crook of his neck, and closed his eyes.

(In which Will fights hard, very hard, to keep Hannibal with him.)

Hannibal's fingertips trace words into Will's back. Disjointed phrases of poetry. He says, "Prince of the BAU. Prince Imperial of my soul. Your title does not matter to me, Will."

Will exhales, his stomach in quivers. "What does matter, then?"

    "Only that we are together."

Will swallows. His eyes burn hot. Quickly, he coaxes Hannibal into making love to him again. This time, with Will on his side and facing away. So that Hannibal cannot see his face: steeped in sorrow, drenched in dread.

(In which Will does all he can to catch the Ripper and destroys himself in the process.)
