“I just…I want to go home,” Stiles whispered. “I could sleep if I was at home.” And Derek knew that was a lie, because they’d tried. They’d tried so hard at first. They didn’t want to put him here, in this place, with these people, but there was nothing else they could do at the time. With the Alpha Pack still breathing down their necks, it was the only way to keep him safe. It killed the Sheriff the day they dropped him off. Stiles didn’t understand. Derek’s pretty sure he still doesn’t.

Derek took a deep breath. It was going to come out eventually, he just wished he could have been the one to tell Stiles personally rather than having him figure it out on his own. That was still a huge thing for them going way back to Stiles’s sophomore year of high school when nobody trusted anybody and everyone was hiding things. They were in a really good place right now and he hoped this didn’t take them five steps back.

As much as he knew they needed to do this, as much as he actually wanted Stiles to do this, he was still scared. The last time he’d let a human have that kind of power over him, he’d lost everything. But that wasn’t what scared him, he knew Stiles wasn’t Kate, knew he would never do to Derek what Kate did. What scared him, what really scared him, was that he wasn’t scared. The idea of Stiles knowing his true name, having the power to control Derek , completely, right at his fingertips, didn’t even phase Derek.

Keeping werewolves fed and happy isn’t so much a job as it is a survival imperative. Unfortunately, Stiles cannot stroll into PetCo and ask where they keep the economy bags of Wolf Chow, because that would just be making things too easy for Stiles and his Incredible Life of Murphy’s Law. Which is a shame, really, because it turns out that alphas are incredibly picky eaters.

Summary
Stiles has to remember part of his past that he would really like to ignore until it went away, thank you very much. If people would just let him keep ignoring it, it would be great. Now that there's an Alpha pack, and secret agents, and his dad is keeping secrets from him, and why exactly is Derek hanging around so much now? Ignoring it is going to be just impossible to do. Thank God his shrink lets him have as much anti-anxiety medication as he wants.
