"Nostalgia - it's delicate, but potent...In Greek, "nostalgia" literally means "the pain from an old wound." It's a twinge in your heart far more powerful than memory alone. This device isn't a spaceship, it's a time machine. It goes backwards, and forwards... it takes us to a place where we ache to go again. It's not called the wheel, it's called the carousel. It let's us travel the way a child travels - around and around, and back home again, to a place where we know are loved."--Don Draper, Mad Men, "The Wheel" Series 1, Episode 13

Work in progress...please forgive any errors, omissions, changes...trying to kick it around to see if it's worthwhile.
This started when I read that Benedict Cumberbatch had been selected to participate in a "celebrity date." It got me thinking that a situation like that has got to be weird for everyone involved. I also decided to set this before his appearance in Sherlock--so this is set around 2008.

This is the kind of horrible, fluffy stuff that you can only get away with this time of year.
I think the thing I love the most about British television is its affinity for Christmas specials. Sure, American television has them, but British Television has made it an artform. A small, side story with characters you love celebrating along with you? There’s something magical in that, and something American television hasn’t quite got down pat. In the spirit of this philosophy, I decided to write up a fluffy, smutty seasonal fic (which is, unfortunately due to conflicting obligations, a few days late—beg pardon).
