    Summary

Knowing my sister, she'd been out in a sweater and a hat and a jacket, but the downpour had probably drenched her to the skin anyway. And she hates being cold.

Set a few years before Feed. Fic contents include rain, hot drinks, and snuggling.

(The working title was "blatant, unrepentant snuggle fic". It does what it says on the tin.)

Everyone's got a code, right? Probably? That was ours, or one of them. The code that meant "Remember what we did? Remember what I did to you, what you did to me?"

In which healing starts slowly, dreams keep old wounds fresh, and the fact that there's no such thing as ghosts doesn't make being haunted any easier.

Set in more than one book in the trilogy, hence the vague summary. Full-series spoilers.

Funny how often things backfire so badly that you get the exact opposite of what you wanted--our parents' refusal to let us keep sharing a room, where we each had our own side to retreat to, is how we wound up sharing a bed instead.

    Summary

Steve leaned over to see what Claudia had found, which put him too close to avoid noticing when her shoulders slumped a little. "Boring ping?" he asked.

"Nope." She allowed herself one long sigh, straightened, and hopped up. Steve started reading while she paged Artie, but was only halfway through when she came back. She jabbed a finger at the location details. "It's an anyone-but-me ping. Official government badges all the way."

    Summary

During that first visit she told us the bare minimum she could get away with, and by sheer force of will she made things as normal as possible under conditions that involved crashing at a gigantic house inhabited by intelligent creatures that flew in the face of everything I thought I knew about the world. We spent those three days letting Maggie show us her favorite movies, eating the kind of obscenely good food that the ludicrously wealthy can have on hand, and trying not to jump out of our skin every time the Aeslin mice appeared in their brightly-colored scraps of clothing, whether it was to celebrate an esoteric religious rite or to get in on some popcorn action. They were deeply curious, scrupulously polite, and obsessed with cake.

They'd been fascinated by my eyes, which came to their attention when they noticed that, unlike everyone else, I didn't turn lights on when I went into darkened rooms.

    Summary

"Is anyone dead?" I asked, a bundle of questions wrapped into one: Was anyone bitten? Did anyone amplify? Did you just come home from shooting a friend?

    "No."

Which meant he'd had a close call, and since my brother's mission in life is to court death, any call close enough to scare him instead of thrilling him is something I know not to ask about.

    Summary

We've got a system that works for us. A lot of it boils down to "George takes care of the details and I take care of her". Sometimes I'm a little too good at leaving her job up to her; sometimes she's kind of crap at letting me do mine.

Set early in Feed, as things are about to get hectic in preparation for following Senator Ryman's campaign.

When I go out into the field with Shaun, the plan is rarely for me to engage directly with whatever zombies he rustles up. I'm there for other reasons: to provide backup in case something goes wrong, to get him additional camera angles, to yell at him for playing too dangerously, and to give him a live audience. He'd be a lousy Irwin if he couldn't entertain himself just fine on his own, but he's happier with company and happiest if it's me.
