(Supernatural fusion AU) When he left the Army, Clint Barton never thought he’d end up finding his calling hunting monsters. But then, he never thought the brilliant, cursed and sinfully gorgeous teenager he saved from insanity would become his lover, either.

WARNINGS: Any and all parts may include violence, gore, supernatural themes, swearing, adult themes, and explicit consensual sex (sometimes with one partner under eighteen but over sixteen).

The death of a family friend forces Jack and Phryne to investigate an emotionally charged case while navigating their evolving relationship with each other and everyone around them. Light on mystery, heavy on romance, liberally dosed with angst and tempered by witty banter: my usual recipe!

This is a direct follow-up to Perchance to Dream. You can enjoy this fic without reading the other, but you're likely to wonder what you've missed. This is a cross posting with fanfiction.net, but the good stuff will be over here (on account of the content rules).

Smut is entirely segregated in Chapters 4 and 10, thus far, so you can skip it or skip to it depending on your preferences ;)

    Bookmarker's Notes

I giggled most of the way through this. Merida accidentally becomes famous for dealing with supernatural beasties, thanks (mostly) to her brothers.
I'm sure Merida'll deny to her dying day that she's secretly having a blast Simply Doing What Needs To Be Done.

Kerowyn is hardly the first adult warrior to be Chosen. It's almost like there's a system for these things.

    Bookmarker's Notes

A beautiful missing scene that could have been cut from the books - but never should have been, if Misty had written it. Kerowyn meets Alberich, and they illustrate both how competent they are at their jobs and how awesome they are in general.

"Someone told me earlier," he said calmly, "that the bard that the king bestows such favour upon is a lowborn lout and a meddlesome conniving liar, envious of his betters and out to destroy the Court's social order."

    Bookmarker's Notes

This is a brilliant look at some of the OTHER issues Stef and Vanyel had to settle early in their relationship. Nothing about fame or magical power; just the wide gulf of understanding between a noble-born who's always had something, or someone, to fall back on... and a street brat who's always had to walk on his own legs or die where he falls, who's never been able to trust in anyone else to take care of him... and the life-bonded lover who never realised before that Stefen didn't understand that he could even ask, much less that he didn't need to.
I wish, wish, WISH, that Lackey would do something in one of the anthologies on a similar theme; I can't remember any of her other marquee couples being quite so disparate in their personal history and social standing (although seeing Talia or even Skif's reaction on their first visit to Dirk's family home might be close enough to the theme) and it's a little frustrating in retrospect that she didn't have the page-space to explore some of the NON-gay implications of Van and Stef's odd-couple-ness.
